f you want a fun lunch, one that takes you back to 1940's Toronto, then you might want to drop in to People's Foods one day - tell the cabbie Victoria Street and Dundas, and you'll be right there.
I first went here almost 15 years ago, when I was working on a documentary on a local station. The long and narrow room was full with smiling, happy people and small groups piled in at comfortable dark wood pods and banquettes. I'd love to say that People's made me move from my Seattle home; alas, I was transferred to T.O. by my company and have since made the little diner on Victoria Street a regular haunt.
Very easy to miss, People's Foods serves up breakfast, lunch and light dinner, including the heavenly big, bad breakfast. It's a more expensive than your usual diner, but many of these are for professionals only (pre- and post-board-room baby!) - R.B.

1 Reader Reviews | Food was greasy but bland. Large portions, but at $12 for a burger and onion rings with a glass of water it was not cheap! For a diner it seemed to lack charm, and the service wasn't bad but very apathetic. There are better places to go.
