    Review by Lauren Denhartog
Gourmet Panini, desserts and of course, coffee, Niche serves up your standard high-end coffee fare in a space that, while noticeably more laid back in appearance than its chic new Queen west location, is nonetheless warm and inviting.

Perhaps where Niche differentiates itself from other coffee joints is that it has given tea has a considerable roll in the production - more than just a couple of dusty boxes of tea and some pre-boiled water. Stop by on a weekend between 11 and 4 for ‘Sugar High Tea’ for two which includes a large pot of premium tea accompanied by a tiered platter of desserts.

House specialties for their sweet-toothed clientele include the ‘Frosted Chocolate,’ described as an ‘icy cold, thick and perfectly sweet chocolate drink topped with whipped cream.’ This bevvie also comes with a burst of banana flavor if you're feeling saucy. From the hot chocolate family, the ‘Submarino’ is made with steamed milk and comes with a bar of deliciously sweet chocolate on the side.

Weekend brunch is served until 2 and includes gourmet French toast, breakfast burritos, gingerbread waffles and Niche granola. Of course, none of these items would be complete without a steaming hot cup of joe to wash em’ down. I’ve saved the best for last here because sometimes simple is the way to go. With names like 'Danforth’ and ‘Queen West,’ Niche’s coffee is sure to please no matter which of the two locations you visit.

Sterile space, lukewarm staff, weak food, okay coffee.

Would it be too much to ask for a decent espresso? At least their lattes are okay.

The most corporate indie coffee shop you'll ever set foot in.

This place had an awful lot of potential, but recently it's just been awful. The decor was always soulless, but one could generally overlook that as the great music and lively behind-the-counter-banter brought complete strangers into engrossing debates and added a much needed sense of community to the barren strip.
I hadn't been in awhile, but when I stopped in last week it had really gone downhill - the food was always pretty uninspiring, the music pretty severely blew (Django Reinhart, anyone?) and it was desolate save for a chatty group of entitled looking yummy-mummies with Jeep brand strollers and nonfat lattes.
