West Queen West-ers get another one! Midpoint has set up shop on the otherwise parched stretch midway between the Drake and the Gladstone, and you've got Eric Macedo to thank for the modest addition.

Aiming to raise the standard of late night food offerings along the currently hot West Queen West strip, Macedo, a long time resident in the area, took the recent growth of bars in these parts as an opportunity to fill a void for late night fare. While the downtown core has the infamous hotdog carts on nearly every corner, this strip of Queen Street had nothing more than slabs of Pizza Pizza to satisfy the munchies.

The eventual goal here is to win over the late night booze crowd looking for something quick and inexpensive. But first Macedo has the additional headache of not having a liquor license (Mid July is the expected date). Despite the current state of affairs, Macedo seems to be on the right track and has the background to likely make a good go of this.

He cites 7 West and Café Diplomatico as the direction he wants to follow with Midpoint. Named after a late night café chain in Istanbul, Midpoint offers a scaled down menu, a non-licensed bar and a somewhat bleak décor. There’s no real hi-design here, but that’s part of the appeal in itself. It’s not fine dining, but rather a late night eatery look and feel.

I have only been there once, but the chicken special was tremendous - the sauce was smoky and sweet the meat was fork tender. Still no license.

Any sign of a liquor license yet?

With no liquor license, their opening is a little premature. Admittedly, our meal was good.

Not bad. I've been by, but I'll wait for the liquor license. But I can see it being a cool nabe spot
