“Excuse me—but ladies first, please” said the waiter to my boyfriend who was caught mid-sentence in his order. Slightly embarrassed, my boyfriend disarms his menu and chirps, “Of course.”

That was a year ago, but to this day, that French waiter taught my boyfriend something about dining etiquette that he still applies because of that innocent, but shaming comment.

This fine French boite not only serves up delicious food, but chivalrous staff as well. – A.C

The food was okay but I disliked the atmosphere. The place seemed very worn down. Overall, it was not worth the price and I will not be coming back again.

I am very suspicious of the reviewers giving Marcel's a decent review. I went with friends with all the best expectations for winterlicious, happy that we could get reservations. Although the service was professional, the quality and commitment of kitchen staff and chef to FOOD is lacking. For example, the butter was pre-packeged in single serving plastic capsules, the vegetables had been frozen and cooked, and the whole menu was outrageously overpriced, un-French and better suited to a cafeteria. A plate of frozen vegetables is offered as the vegetarian entree at $17. The soup, I suspect, was bought, not house made. The interior could have been forgiven with a decent meal.

The restaurant stays in business not from return customers, but from the hungry theatre goers from across the street.

Marcel's is a great little French fine dining restaurant situated steps from the theatres. We went there after the theatre after hearing great things from friends. It's like being transported to Paris without ever leaving Toronto.
