Don’t know how this one snuck under the radar, but Linux Caffe has moved into what we think was the Five Star Variety Store, taking over the corner of Harbord and Grace. Little Linux Caffe serves up a small array of light foods and healthy snacks to post Bickford Park-goers.
The menu offers the likes of Panini, with salami, prosciuto, roasted red pepper, mozzarella, goat cheese, hot melanzanne) and top quality garnishes, on a crusty baguette or ciabatta bun. Soups range from minestrone, cream of mushroom and cold soups, like gazpacho. 326 Harbord St, Toronto. - B.J.

While it looks like a funky cafe from the outside, the quality is terrible. It looks like these folks had a dream of an all-organic, boutique cafe and sold out to the low prices of no-frills teas and fine grind in a can. The regular American coffee tasted so awful; it was weak, acidic and had sat on the burner for too long. The regular coffee is a good litmus test for me as to the quality of the rest of the place. I even heard the manager/owner speaking with a customer behind me. The customer asked if they had a medium blend. The manager proudly beamed "we ONLY serve dark". If dark means burnt coffee, then yes that is accurate and not a reason to return.

I come here for coffee, muffins and some online work, not for the ambiance. There are always homeless people wandering, loitering in and out. I always come back to satisfy my coffee craving. It's cheap, fast and okay, which is good especially for times like these.

Usually if I come after 2pm, they run out so go early. It tastes even better when it just comes out of the oven, around 11am.

Canadiano was fantastic, free wifi was nice, free Ubuntu distro CDs were cool. One thing that made me chuckle: All 4 others laptops using patrons in the cafe were running Windows XP.

The people who work there would rather stare into space than help you. The attitude was unbelievable!

Delicious, simple, affordable foods (for example, my personal fav, the pita-za), a selection of brewed coffee and espresso beverages, and a range of other drinks and snacks make this cafe my new favorite.
The menu is complimented by the fascinating, eclectic decoration (featuring work by local artists) and the super staff.
I also *adore* their wireless network, which is blazing fast, and open to anyone who stops by for a coffee and/or snack. Living up to it's name, Linux Caffe is also a bastion of open-source, and second home to many of the city's groups for tech-enthusiasts.
I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a good coffee (americano's rock!) or an even better operating system.
