eep in the dank, dark mayhem of clubland, we see the Light; or, perhaps not. In spite of its oom-chas, Eurodance-lite vibe, the tritely dubbed Light, resembles an event launch space; of course, this was intentional. While Light features the usual Friday and Saturday club nights, it also whores itself out as a corporate and launch event space during the week.
While previous tenant, Fabrik, lacked magnetism, Light tries to draw crowds (think: mosquito lamp) with an ample helping of "buzz". The transformed space, in and of itself, isn't a bad edition to the area. Clubland venues, notoriously fluid, typically act as flash in the pan cash cows. Light is no different, though it does attempt to distance itself from its contemporaries with welcome accouterments like a back-entrance-accessible, VIP bottle service area.
Light's interior crashes bold black and white aesthetics into white woods, leather benches and velvet drapes, thus magnifying the industrial-chic interior left behind by Fabrik Lounge. A large black bar with mosaic tiles and a crystal chandelier manages to bring the small dance floor to life. Essentially, it's still archetypal stuff, but with a slight and recognizable twist.
Friday nights, promotional events dish out main course, DJ-delivered beats. The resident DJs spin webs of energy and charisma that stream down from the raised DJ booth. Saturdays, like a recent post-graduate, are still struggling to find their footing. Nonetheless, both nights have the floor shaking and drinks pouring like rain.
