The menu, like the décor, is sparse but satisfying. Available are several nibbling platters such as the Mediterranean or the Moroccan which comes with deliciously warm 5-cheese rolls drizzled with a sweet glaze and soft chicken skewers. Chef P’s marinated Portobello mushrooms melt in your mouth and have a delightful, face-scrunching balsamic bite. The culinary offerings here are not meant to fill; there are plenty of restaurants further east or west where one can get a full-course meal. Rather, the menu items are presented as perfect accompaniments to a martini or glass of vino.
Located just west of some of King Street’s reputable eateries, Libra’s location will serve it well. The lounge will surely pick up the after-dinner crowd making their way to the club district with which it will undoubtedly compete for well-heeled sippers and schmoozers that are looking to lounge with libations.
If nothing else, Libra brings yet another gust of sophistication to King Street West, onto which it eminates an enticing, candle-lit glow. The bar is unlikely to play host to the scenester crowd that saturates College but will surely pick up King Street’s swish new residents. With a number of new developments going up in the area (including the festival tower just down the road) the area is likely to see an increase in similar establishments (read: competiton). Let’s just hope that Libra has what it takes to stand out from the crowd. –L.D.
