espite the name, you'll mostly hear deep but pumping house spun by guest DJs ranging from local up-and-comers to better known names. Saturday's, The DJ's program of electronica draws the sort of indie/alternative/student-oriented crowd that listens to the Chemical Brothers, DJ Icey, Fatboy Slim and the like. Long-running alternative dance club, above Lee's Palace. Deejays spin all the good stuff - old and new soul, R&B and hip-hop sounds that work well with the vibe of the room.
The location (far annex) is the other mildly odd thing about the Dance Cave. It's the Canadian thing to go west, isn't it. But seriously, before Dance Cave, there was no place in the Westside (annex, or further) where club kids felt comfortable. Most of the bars there still have that '80s mentality --the door policy, the sports bar feel.
The setting is a simple Dance Cave upstairs and the downstairs is an underground type setting. They get a great music line up all the time and the crowd is very down to earth. No club b.s. Good drinks, good music, and good vibe. That's what draws people over and over again. - R.B. |
