Le Papillon's brasserie-style food echoes the earthy, highly seasonal nature of the cooking of rural Provence. Dishes like the filet mignon aux Trois Poivres ($26.00), a surprisingly tender cut, has been seasoned with the namesake peppercorn brandy cream sauce. A touch of red current sauce is a natural extension of the assertive flavours of the Grilled marinated lamb chops ($22.00).

The l’entrecôte Bordelaise ($24.00), served with a red wine demi-glace, was not a great cut (on two ocasions). Both were works of art on the plate and both delicious, oozing rich red juices and providing plenty of flavour, just not as tender as prime rib eye should be.

Customers will certainly come back for steak and with fervent requests to try out the rest of the dinner menu - or “Les Plats Principaux,” in the restaurant’s distinctive patois. And all would go swimmingly but for chef’s pesky obsession with salt.

Otherwise, Le Papillon, in its new location, is yet another crowd-pleasing eatery that has just the right balance of the salty and the sweet. Its service is attentive and polished without being overbearing, adding to the gracious air of days gone by. It might be a little fussy (not to mention pricey) for everyday, but even in its new location – and yet another location, Le Papillon on the Park (1001 Eastern Avenue) opening this summer - is still a prime dining experience. - ML

Came here for dinner on a Friday night with the BF. We were seated right away despite being 15-20 minutes early. The restaurant is on the large side. It has a cozy, romantic yet low key vibe to it. Perfect for winding it down after a long week.

My experience at Le Papillon on Front: "Horrendous hole with no decor.
Poor service standards and a terrible missing management. How do places like this make it to survive in Toronto? OMG, I'm never coming back to get sick again"
    Thanks

Papillon on Front is a little hole in the wall restaurant on Front. My family and I went there for a birthday...the waitress was most definitely French. She recommended the filet mignon and scallops, which we tried. The meal and the while evening was realy nice.

was reccomended by hotel concierge, it was not that memorable. No wonder the place was empty. This place would not last a week in Montreal.

Tried Le Papillon... disappointed. Found the space to be unsuited to the decor, the menu was over priced significantly and the portions were very small. Do not recommend.

It was my first experience at the Papillon on Front and I have to say that it was very dissapointing. The service was very poor from the start until the end and the waitress even forgot to put our main orders in the kitchen. We ended up waiting at least an hour for them and nothing was offered to compensate. We felt that the quality of the food wasn't meeting our standards, particularly the meats and bread. They claim to be French, but I am French and I cook better at home. Very dissapointing.

This my (new) favorite place in Toronto. The staff is great, the fare is awesome (yes, expensive but awesome) and so is the food (love the steak frites) ...this is a great place for a nice night out!

Very pleasant atmosphere. Extremely attentive staff. Food is simple as for a bistro style but excellent. A bit pretentious. But still loved it.
