ot only is the presentation of Kaiseki Sakura's signature fare meticulous, but the dining room shows a deft designer's touch, with rich black banquettes and subtle pink hues.
The Church and Wellesley eatery has two high-end Japanese tasting menus ($60 and $80) and a lengthy list of kaiseki style dishes. Owner/chef Daisuke Izutsu's periodically changing multi-course menu lets you sample Japanese food in all its diverse deliciousness.
Try the fish-tastic (sorry) Panko-Crusted Salmon stuffed with a bacon, sautéed onion and sour cream mix. The flavours are subtle but complex, creating a rollicking impression on the tongue. With a side of sendai miso paste, a myriad of sensations (salty, rich, creamy, crunchy) play off one another in uvula teasing harmony.
A plate of House-Smoked Salmon is artfully arranged with a shiso leaf and a mound of puréed capers. The best dish of the night was the Beef Tongue braised in miso. While it took the longest to arrive, it was worth the wait. This dish features a topping of green onion, while a crispy French stick helped lighten the load.
Kaiseki Sakura dazzles with its inspired gastronomy and complementary, innovative melding of ingredients. Sure, one meal costs more than the GDP of several small-to-mid-sized countries, but your poor tongue, cooped up for eternity in your dodgy mouth, deserves a little love too.

We had the 5 course omakase (tasting) menu. As someone who has lived in Japan, I'm always on the lookout for Japanese restaurants that go beyond sushi and teriaki. My partner was worried that 5 tiny courses would leave him hungry, but we were all stuffed by the time dinner ended. The dishes were imaginative, beautifully presented, and quite delicious. The big surprise for me was the soy-marinated bocconcini. Not a combination I ever would have tried, but really tasty. Service was pleasant and attentive. While the price puts it in the range of special occasion meal, I'd be very happy to go there again.

Probably one of the best resturants in Toronto. It's nice to finally see a real resturant in that city. Keiseki is a very fine meal if you can appreciate it or want to step up and out of all the Chinese run "Japanese" joints there that focus on quantity and the expense of quality (and you health). 1st rate. The only thing on the down side is the limited selection on Sake but that's the case with anything in Canada (small population means small supply/selection) and you may not notice unless you're a sake acoholic like me hangin in Tokyo.

Don't blink when you're walking by or you might miss it. There's an ugly purple sign out front and the facade is pure dollar-store with a door somewhere. Once you make it inside, you're in for a real treat though. The idea basically is Japanese tapas; lots of small plates to share and considering the quality of the ingredients you're getting, it's not a bad value really.

Treat yourself to the biggest rip off in the city! maybe the world!! Sashimi is at market prices ($30 for 5 smelly morsels of c-grade grouper)which begs the question, what market? Or better yet, why don't you spend $18 for 2 pieces of shrimp tempura, which will have you wondering why didn't you cross the street and grab some popcorn shrimp from pizza pizza. Top it all off with 2 pieces of black cod (again $18) which tastes as though they have been farming it at the mouth of the sewage pipe in lake ontario.
I could go on for a while -eg. (ridiculously priced beer ($11 bottle), which when you park in the beer store parking lot next door ads greatly to aggravation), but i'm too hungry to think.
They are CROOKS.
