  • Irie Food Joint

"Honey," she said at last, "let's just order some food." For a professional wanderer to stumble upon such uncharted territory can be very humbling. I mean, where have I been? When I tell my ego to take a hike long enough to allow me to enjoy some deliciously spicy Jamaican jerk chicken wings and a wedge of red-velvet cake so giddily indulgent it makes me sorry I don't have a Jamaican accent, the experience can be downright exhilarating, and really fattening.

It is a laid-back, no-frills Caribbean joint with killer jerk shrimp. Killah! Delectable preparations characterize West Indies dishes from start to finish. And they serve Red Stripe to boot! The man of the house is Carl Cassell and the charming man that he is will make you feel at home. Menu items include Jerk Chicken - battered chicken on a bed of rice and peas; Curry shrimp linguine; Ital stew (potato, carrot and onion) with rice and peas.

The lineup is a tame batch, don’t expect too much fire in your grilled tortilla, but the menu aims to please. The chicken dishes seem to be the strength, right down to the chicken tortilla with avocado and smashed beans. Wash it down with a Red Stripe and you’re laughing. - A.J.

You can do better than here. Slow service, overpriced food. This place is relaly for Tourist or just to have a drink. Jamaican food should never be so overpriced0 you are paying for Queen West and the window seat if you get it. Drinks are good. Search around Toronto and you can do better.

You have to wait a while for the food but it is worth it. Jamaican food cannot be rushed or you will end up with junk. I would definitely recommend this place. The atmosphere is fantastic. I love it.
