iva Italia! Il Fornello's Church street location, in the heart of the gay village, aims to offer authentic Italian cuisine to Toronto urbanites. Taking over the old Inspire space, this location features marble floors, a cocktail bar, puffy banquets and a very cool moveable storefront that transforms the front section of the restaurant into the ultimate open air patio lounge – great for people watching on Church Street when late-night rolls around. Designed by Toronto architect firm Giannone Associates Architects Inc, who also created the interiors of the two new restaurant/bar concepts recently opened by the Il Fornello group, Lago and Strada.
Being Italian, you can expect plenty of pastas and pizzas on the menu, but the Church location is lucky enough to have some special meals unique to the resto. Some notable mentions include the Roast Veal Striploin with rosti potatoes and winter vegetables in a cognac peppercorn jus and the Chicken with Chevre that is presented with a sweet potato strudel. Seafood is somewhat absent on the entrées with only a Salmon dish offered, and a mussel appetizer.
While this is not the ultimate Italian restaurant in the city, it is a reliable standby for friendly service and average Italian dining.

3 Reader Reviews | If you want a decent meal, with good service this is exactly what you will get at the Il Fornello on King. In the heart of the entertainment district, this locale is a great appetizer to an exciting night on the town. Service is excellent, the food is good, although the prices were somewhat higher than expected, given the quality of food that was served. Overall, I would give a thumbs up for the Il Fornello at this particular location, mainly due to the proximatey to the clubs and theatres. Dinner for three with wine, tax and gratuity - $125.00.

A gorgeous space, great staff (thanks for a great evening Mikki!!), great food and good value for the money. As someone who has been in the service industry a long time I am usually more critical than most but can't think of any dinner I've enjoyed more in a long time. The room is small and intimate, beautiful with comfy banquettes. Service can be as rushed or as relaxed as you want, just let your server know. We were warmly greeted by the host and asked more than once by the manager how our evening was(thanks for making us feel special Daniel, we'll be back and introduce more of our friends to the best thing to hit Church Street in awhile!!). Four stars and two thumbs up to Il Fornello on your latest venture.

welcome to another cookie cutter franchise, but this one caters to the daddies in us all. arrived at 7pm one sunday place not very busy, took about 20 minutes for waiter to come to take our order, we even had to go and get him to tend to our table, even after two other tables came in and were well on their way to getting bread and wine. And nice to see a manager so attentive, but not to us, apparently to a table of his friends, and boy was he mindfull of their wishes, to the extent that the whole room felt ignored. also if a manager has to take the time out from caring for his fav table to tell the bread servers not to smell the bread before and after it is served, please do so a little further away than two feet from other PAYING customers, this is really unprofesssional. the food was okay, it not a little overpriced for what you are getting, but overall rather a disappointing venue, what is next for this space on church st. who knows....
