The former is bathed in slowly shifting coloured light; the latter is suffused in about a zillion watts of strobes and flashing pin spots, all pumping from a Sputnik-looking globe fastened to the ceiling, which current owner Jesse Carere calls The Porcupine.

“Look at it,” he yells, proud of his new toy. “It’s so tiny and when it’s on it spotlights the whole dance-floor... and gives life to the whole area.” As if on cue, the little thing comes alive, the streams of light illuminate the packed mayhem.

While a mild obsession with layered wood trellis directs the entire space, curve-y dividers provide unobstructed viewing of the new VIP area, dubbed Suite 77. This area is a smaller, more intimate private area roped off with its own meaty doorman. Should Hotel staffers see you as a VIP, Suite 77 - with its low ëultra-suede’ banquettes and full bottle service - is clearly the best seat in the house.
