Desserts (all $6) also seem to be more generic than the season dictates: a ‘Sky-High’ Lemon Meringue Pie, the signature Rice and Raison Pudding and an Apple Pie -- on our last visit it was peach -- that suffered from an excessively tough crust.
The waitstaff at Fran’s (what little we saw of them) were not very imposing, but they rank among the most uninspired creatures ever to garner a paycheck. The overall service was a depressing mish-mash of room managers and part-timers galore, everyone thrown into a dining room with little to no explanation. Even the manager, who insisted on remaining nameless on a recent phone call, was of no help; “I’m on my break,” the man uttered.” But thank you very much for your call.”
Thus a lot of your enjoyment of this venue will ride on how much you like the original Fran’s. – S.W.

5 Reader Reviews | I agree with the observation about the strange mix of unhelpful staff. We were waiting for a while to be seated so the bartender got around to it and said he would serve us. He then went back to the bar and stared at the wall for a while. He seemed irritated when I politely reminded him that my friends and I would like to eat something. We mostly had breakfast food, which was okay. My friend said her vegetarian lasagna was pretty tasty. I don't imagine I'll go back.

Good God.....the height of mediocrity! I'm completely embarrased that this is a tourist destination. I had the asian noodle salad. It might as well have come out a box. Bland beyond words. The soup actually had a slice of processed cheese swimming on top. Class act! How anyone can give this more than one star is beyond me! Horrendous!

As a person who enjoys eating out, I decided to give Fran's Restaurant on Victoria a whirl. I decided to opt out of having my favourtite dish, the Lasanga. Instead, I ventured into their new selection and ordered the Fran's "Surf and Turf". I have to say, the food was pretty good and satisfying. Albeit, I am bias, as I dine at Fran's when I can't figure out where to go.

After a hectic day at work, I decided to eat out at Fran's with some co-workers. The location is perfect - right in the heart of the city. I decided to have their Hamburger, my buddy had a Tuna Melt, and another had the Pasta. Superb! The service was excellent. Also, I enjoyed the retro environment. It is an easy going place, with a sense of feeling as if I am home. I hear that they have an incredible breakfast selection. I can't wait to try them out. I highly recommend the place.
