eer lovers unite! Like a kid in the candy store, the Bier Markt offers over 100 brands of beer from 24 countries. A favorite among the after-work Bay Street rat packs, this brew haven also serves up a brasserie-style menu offering succulent steaks and frites, mussels doused in fragrant wine and offerings of grilled Bavarian sausages and seafood selections. You can also test if their chocolate-flavoured pint would work well with their chocolate fondue desert. Sounds gross, but you may be surprised. - A.C.

I took a party of 6 (including myself) to Bier Markt this past long weekend and unfortunately, we won't be heading back.
Firstly, I must say that our service and the beer selection were above average - but that is about it.
We ordered two large mussels to start the table off. One Delirium and one Provincale. Unlike some other T.O. restaurants, they serve them by the kilo and WITHOUT bread/baguette and frites. (Certainly you can purchase frites for $5 @ Bier Markt, but why bother after paying $20 for the large alone?!?)...
The individual mussels were large in size, but that is about all they had going for them. Those that sat above the broth(almost 1/3 of each pot) were dry and tasteless; and while the Delirium broth was savory - the Provincale had so much rosemary in it, it was like they were trying to hide soemthing...
I had the $33 14oz steak which was cooked to perfection, but I know where to get better quality beef prepared Continental-style for less than $25 in the city. The frites under my steak were limp, greasy, and bland. Our server told us in passing that they were marinated in beef tallow. That didn't make me feel better.
The veal schnitzel, bison, special capon wings, and burger were also ordered at the table. Burger and schnitzel were well receieved, but the bison was over-cooked.
When we arrived at 8.15pm the restaruant had a cozy feel, despite how large it is inside - however, after 9pm, the classic rock background and intimate dining atmosphere became...a club?!?
I took my friends to Bier Markt for a quality, relaxed, unique, and interesting Toronto experience. I am truly sad to report this place seems to rely on their gracious servers and their sticky bier catalogues to bring in customers. And after 9.00pm it seems to work. I just won't be dining their again...
