No no, not Djerba the Douche, but Djerba la Douce. Toronto’s only Tunisian restaurant is a must visit – if only for the hookah on the patio. Organic and Halal dishes are served from this tiny East end café that combines the flavours of Southern Italy and France with North African spices for a truly Pan-Mediterranean menu. Couscous, calamari and crêpes de la mer are specialties at Djerba, all cooked to order by Chef Adul El-masari Abderrazak. If your in the area for a quick bite to eat and want to try something different from the usual fast food frenzy, why not relax at Djerba – after all, how many of you can say you’ve dined on Tunisan cuisine? - E.J.

I highly recommend this place, the food is unlike anything ive ever tried. I came with two other friends on a busy friday night, but the wait wasnt too overwhelming. We were served tea first and then appetizers. The calamari, shrimp, and mushwa salad were all fantastic. The couscous was our main course, and we all loved it! our bowls were packed though, so we had to end up taking some of the leftovers home with us, and it tasted greatttt the next day. I highly recommend this place..definitely Tunisisan cuisine at its best.

P.S. In terms of the first comment from JEAN, I noticed thats the exact same comment you wrote on another site, and thats pretty pathetic..and in terms of the canned products on display, im pretty sure they are all used minimally and are not the MAJOR component of ANY OF THE DISHES served. Therefore these dishes would still be classified as ORGANIC since the majority of the ingredients used are of that nature.(organic vegetables, lamb etc.) So im sorry about your bad experience..but theres no need to try and bash the restaurant whereever you can, please get a life. Thanks

First visit to this restaurant and it will be my (our groups) last. We were the first group to arrive in the restaurant and the last to be served our dinner. We waited an hour and a half for calamari, chicken and a salad! The waitress did not once come and ask us if we wanted any drinks or to apologize or explain the delay in waiting for our dinners. When the food arrived there again was no apology for the delay.

We weren't the only ones left wondering what was taking so long to be served. While we were waiting there were at least 2 other tables complaining as well. At one point, a couple was actually asked to move to another table in the middle of their meal!

Being a vegan, I asked which meals were meat-free (as there was no explanation on the menu's as to what the dishes were aside from the platters). She directed me to the salads and veggie couscous. I ordered a salad. I waited over an hour for a salad that was covered in tuna and could not eat.

When it came time for desserts, they were "all out" of every dessert they had on their menu.

Also, having cans of no-name brand vegetables sitting on the counter while they advertise organic produce was REALLY lame.

Enjoyable neighbourhood restaurant. Tunisian style food. A lot of vegetarian and fish dishes.

Start with mint tea. Watch out - they use a lot of sugar.

The chef prepares the food in an open kitchen. Ask the server for daily specials.

No liquor license. You won't miss it and you'll spend all the money on food.

    I would recommend it highly.
