orker ants line up at the cafeteria for macaroni & Cheese.
The Vibe
It's all Sears now. Fitting in with the previous tenant's décor, lots of purple (oops, Aubergine). Now that the dust has settled, you’ll find the staff back to their old standoffish ways, but it was nice while it lasted. You won't recognize this landmark cafeteria. Very Marche', this eatery, but in a good way. Don't come here looking for the same hot beef sandwich fare. This is a sushi, pasta, pizza, apple & cheese sandwich fix.
The Food
This newly renovated retro-chic-cafeteria is big on the pizza theme. The sandwich counter seems to be the most popular, but I made a bad choice with a boring tuna fish sandwich. The Burger looked great though, with many unusual fixings.
But my salmon was crispy around the edges and orange inside; although I'm not sure it went well with the accompanying bits of potatoes. Ditto the chicken breast, which seemed to get lost in a mixture of bland wild rice. But comfort-food addicts will enjoy the burger (with more frites, and a wet coleslaw) and the weekend brunch, which offers a roster of home-cooked items like fluffy buttermilk waffles and thick slabs of pork-belly bacon (drizzled with honey and black pepper. But the best was the seared salmon on julienned vegetables. Desserts have their own station.
