Crocodile Rock

Review by Ron Brill
The Croc is a great place to lose boring relatives and unwanted houseguests. Slick back your hair and rock out to the annoying twang of typical top '40 beats on cracked speakers, or go back further in time, throw on some painter's pants and thump your hands to the beat of The Cult. Sure, the Croc doles out some '80s tunes, but what joint would admit to that?

Expect to see site deejays spinning the occasional Euro-trance and house grooves at this multilevel, crocodile-themed club in the heart of Clubland. Also, expect an unbearably boring crowd to gather here, which appears to be quite the regulars’ spot. As for the guys, baseball caps rate frighteningly high here as fashion item #1. According to some of our readers, high-powered sports luminaries and Bay Street I-bankers still find refuge here, amongst the usual sports bar type.

When this place does have its act together, deejays spin classic and downbeat rock. Don't expect them to pump it up though. And, if you want to have a conversation with somebody, head to the more secluded back room. Luckily, the music is loud enough to drown out the inane chatter swirling around you. Oh, and beware of hungry cougars.

Went to Crocodile Rock for the first time Sat Sept 1/07 and had a blast. Met allot of great people and even a Cop from Ireland, too bad he was headed home.

Can't wait to go back. See you there

Tried to go in there once, and they wouldn't let me in because I was wearing jeans. Can you imagine? This joint should have been delighted to have some patrons who weren't 300 pounds or arthritic, and they wouldn't let the jeans in. And they bill themselves as "The heart and soul of rock n' roll". LOL.

Unfortunately my girlfriends and i decided to check this place out last weekend because we had never been...big mistake! It was HORRIBLE! The people represented the decor-ugly. I do not recommend going here under any circumstances-unless like the reviewers say, you are there to bring out your boring old relatives for the night. I do have to say the bartenders were very nice and gave me and my girlfriends free drinks all night (i think it's because they felt sorry for us for being there!)
Anyway, i know this is sounding harsh, but i just want to put the warning out there for anyone who has been to a nicer place in Toronto-they will hate it here! Do not waste your precious saturday night!

First of all, I'd like to state the fact that baseball hats are not even allowed to be worn in the bar. I've seen the staff there continually asking that people take them off. Second of all, Crocodile Rock might not be your upscale, nose-in-the-air type of establishment, but you can always count on non-discriminating staff - whether you wear a mullet or a rolex. I'd also like to add that although the music is not quite "underground", they do play some top forties and retro and it's a good place to just have fun. Forget about going there to "see and be seen" (although there have been a number of celeb-sitings) - whatever happened to going out and enjoying the company of those you are with? Expect to be hit on here, and expect to see something you though got left behind in the 80's, but most importantly, expect no snobery and some good clean fun.
