Had dinner there on Sunday Night, for Valentines and must say everything was excellent. Had the salmon entree with roasted peppers. Was one of the best i've had. I went to Coco's for NYE 2009/2010 with a large group of friends - close to 15 people. None of us had been there before and were all impressed. The decor and ambiance was lovely and classy - just what we were looking for. I must make a note that the servers were exceptionally courteous and friendly, even thought it was NYE and quite busy. Everyone felt welcomed.
They had a set NYE Menu, DJ, dance area and champagne at midnight. We did not have to wait for long periods between courses. The food was absolutely fantastic! Everyone in our group was impressed and very happy with their experience the whole night.
Several people in our group are planning to go back to try some stuff on Coco's regular menu.

Was in town last weekend and stopped by college to meet some friends. Went into coco lezzone for a bite to eat.. the vibe was really good and the staff seemed attentive to our needs. Was there for a birthday party last weekend. Would like to share my experience.
First off we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table although we had made a reservation. Once we were sat the waiter was very friendly and seemed as though he knew enough to make suggestions about the food items. Anyhow we were given bread and olives which were actually pretty good. Our drinks took a little while but the restaurant was really busy. My main dish was decent, a shrimp pasta dish. All of our food did come out at the same time altohugh there was a bit of a wait. Our waiter would come around quite often and check on us and we did recieve what they called a round of "Birthday shoots". This place does have a pretty good vibe, altohugh i do remember being here a few years ago and it was even busier! It seems that perhaps the management has changed or something is different as they could be a little more organized but again may have to do with lack of staff!

My family went there on Saturday night. They had a good time & were full by the end of the night. We really enjoy the food. The plate presentation is great. We had the seafood platter,the best that i had ever had before. All the seafood cook perfectly and juicy. The platter says it is for two but i think it can be for four people as an appetizer. I had the tiramisue for dessert. It garnished with this chocolate sauce... very cool. I think it was possibly homemade . The texture was perfect and the taste was supper. I will go back there when in town again for sure and tell my friends.

I agree with the person below. I'm a returning customer, been there many busy weekend nights, and I wait my turn to get my table. All these complaints about service and food...if you make yourself vocal while you're IN the restaurant, your needs will be met. Trust me. The servers and the owner, believe it or not, do not like it when guests leave angry so if you have any problems, you'll get compensated either by a round of shots or simply having that food or drink item removed from your bill. I speak from experience, and this is why I have returned and receive above average service compared with the other restaurants in the area. And if you actually get to know the owner, he does appreciate returning guests, and will prove it to you with complimentary food or drinks. I know the reputation of the place has clearly been affected with all these negative reviews, but honestly, it's one or two people pretending to be twenty different people. So go in, experience it for yourself. If you have a problem, deal with it while you're INSIDE the restaurant-- it's common sense. P.S. The brunette bartender and one of the female servers are reallly cute and worth going back for too.

I ate here with seven girlfriends on Friday. The restaurant was beyond disappointing. I will never return to this restaurant. I will warn everyone I know not to bother attending this location. Our business was clearly not appreciated.
The service was incredibly slow. Four of our friends were already seated when the remaining three arrived. It took about 10 minutes to even get water and we never received additional menus. It took an hour to get bread on the table.
I would estimate it took about an hour and a half to get our meals. You would think with that kind of a wait that the alcohol would come quickly, but drink service was also a complete drag. I did not need to worry about over drinking because it took so long to get my next drink. Our reservations were for 8PM so I don't believe that we were crashing the main dinner rush, although the restaurant was busy. When the food finally did arrive, my pasta was tasteless and added to my disappointment. We practically had to beg for our bills since those were also incredibly slow in coming.
As I said, I will not be returning. Don't bother checking out this location

This place really is atrocious. The owner is nothing other than a TYRANT. I used to love it there, but my last visit showed me what this place really is and I’m definitely never going back. The turnover of employees is ridiculous- I have been there 3 times in the past year and every time there were totally different servers and bartenders! So to Cassandra- haha you can go and TRY to see that “nice bartender” but I guarantee she won’t be there anymore! She probably already quit because she was fed up with that asshole Steve, or he probably fired her over nothing. But then on my last visit, I saw him do it again to more than one server, just screaming in their faces over such minor things. I was really disappointed with the food this time. We haven't been here in years what happened to this place? It used to be so good. We are from out of town and were staying in the hotel and thought about Coco Lezzone and decided to go.Service was extremely slow and the pasta was not good at all. I confronted a blond girl behind the bar last weekend and she was rude or just pretended she knew what was going on but had no clue. People are always trying to use superlatives when they're angry - "the WORST place I've EVER eaten!" and to me this makes the review suspect. But in the case of coco lezzone, while it wasn't the worst meal I've ever eaten, it was the most disappointing experience I've had dining in Toronto.
I went with a couple of girlfriend's to celebrate a milestone birthday - what normally would have been a party was turned into an intimate evening instead, where great food and great company in a lovely atmosphere was the goal. From beginning to end the service was appalling - I wish I remember the waiter's name, because I'm sure not a few of you have mentioned little overweight, a particularly unpleasant, supercilious creep who set the tone for an evening that fell very sadly flat. Everybody's food came at different times and in different states of readiness - I ordered steak (great old stand-by - hard to screw up) and the skinny, dry, gray little piece of meat (which I'd ordered rare) arrived cold and was virtually taste-free. Another girl ordered a dish which she had asked about in order to make sure it was enough for a meal that was not even remotely sufficient. To make matters worse, she was still eating (and mopping up a little juice with a piece of bread) when the waiter came by and actually took her plate out from under her hand with the bread in it! We had to call him back.
Throughout, the waiter was cold, rude and unhelpful, making a special evening one we actually will all remember for it being so bad. We're all grown-up ladies, well-behaved and warm to everyone we come in contact with, and his manner was mystifying. I will never return.

A few years ago I went to Coco Lezzone's for a friend's birthday. I ordered an cream pasta and by the time I got home I had an awful case of food poisoning. Perhaps the cream sat out too long? In any case, I called the next day and explained the situation. Instead of getting an apology and maybe even an offer to come back again on the house, I was rudely told it wasn't their fault and they would take no responsibility for it.
I ended up spending over 80 bucks (my pasta plus drinks and dessert) just to wrap my arms around my toilet for the whole night. Needless to say I've never come back.
Food poisoning came happen I understand, but the rude response was unacceptable.
I would give them a negative star if there was an option.

My husband ordered the Venison and I had the risotto. Both were absolutely delicious... no exaggeration, I didn't want my meal to end, and my husband savoured every bite. The wine was very good - and yes- they kept it coming- as any good restaurant that is attending to their customers properly should! Once we asked them to stop, they obliged. The service was prompt (we left a $35 tip) and pleasant.
If there's anything to complain about, it was a very drunk, loud and dirty looking woman that came in demanding to be served a beer, she refused to leave after being asked politely, so by the third or fourth time, the manager got firm with her and forced her to leave. When this was brought to my attention that people were actually knocking coco's I was shocked to say the least. I was invited to Coco Lezzone for dinner last Friday evening. Apon ordering our drinks we were given a warm basket of bread paired with spicy italian style olives, which were tasty and fresh. Our waiter was pleasant and seemed very knowledgable regarding menu items. My girlfriend and i shared a seafood platter for two, which was good. Had a bit of everything grilled shrimp, calamari, grill veggies, smoked salmon, etc. As a mian dish i ordered a mushroom risotto which was pretty good, not the best i've ever had but not bad either. And for dessert we ordered the apple tart with vanilla ice cream which was delicious! It really was. Dinner for two Price $130 which included seafood platter for two, a glass of wine each, 1 pasta and 1 risotto and a dessert to share. I have definatly paid more for less at other places so overall good value for our money. Will return sometime.

I used to work here, and yes the owner is a person devoid of emotion, common sense, and seriously lacks the ability to communicate in a professional way to staff and guests. But the servers were good people who were trying to make ends meet and had no choice but to wind up in a restaurant that on some nights can make you want to kill yourself. Tips are pooled, so if you're wondering why you may get a different server assisting you throughout your meal, this is why. But servers have to wait WEEKS to get their money from the tip pool!! And if we get fed up, decide to quit, we will never see that money, which can sometimes amount to 600 dollars! And once you quit you can never show your face again or else you will get some serious verbal abuse from Steve...haha! The way that things were run didn't make me want to stay, how someone like Steve ends up owning a restaurant is beyond me. I'm sure 95% of the population of Toronto can run a restaurant more efficiently. It's only my hope that the Labour Board or Better Business Bureau can do their own independent review of this restaurant and oust the dictator! Please!

worst restaurant on college street. coco lezone is run by owner steven salari who charges his staff for ringing wrong items on the computer by mistake.he oftens charges his staff for the stuff which is not even made by the kitchen or bar. he even charges his customers extra. please be extra careful if you are a customer in coco lezzone. check your bill twice before you pay the bill. everything is scam in coco lezzone. don't order expensive liqueur, wine or liquor until you see the bottle from where that drink is poured. you will be poured from cheap bottle of whiskey, vodka, cognac, brandy instead of expensive or exclusive item you ordered. don't let him fool you.

I was going through all the comments, I absolutely agree with what people say about this restaurant Owner Steven Salari. He is one of the worst personality i have ever seen. He treats his employees like slaves. He steals thier tips which customers leaves for the servers. I also agree with the previous reviews cheap wine is poured for the price owner charges for the real wine customer orders from the wine menu. He buys cheap wines for house wines which are not even on his wine menu. Sometimes customers gets mixed grapes wine when he has to empty some wine. He also reuses different food items from already served customer plates. Like fruit plates he saves whatever left from the guest plates when used and left plates go back to kitchen and reserved to new customers.There are many more disgusting things about this restaurants that it will not be over in 10 pages. All the employees working there hates the owner like anything. Guys go spend your money where you gets the value for your money.

Wine glasses were not properly washed but just rinsed in hot water.

I used to work at this restaurant and have to say that it was the worst work experience of my life. The owner, Steve is a disgusting human being. I know that is harsh but please hear me out. He abused me and the rest of the staff verbally and sometimes physically by grabbing and pushing us. I know of four people that have had to go to the Labour Board to collect their pay. Unfortunately they were unable to recover the hundreds of dollars worth of tips that he stole. The food is often reused - for example the hummus and bread that you receive before your meal. Employees are forced to clean the bathroom and then are rushed back to serve tables. We were not allowed breaks, even after 8 hour shifts. When people ordered glasses of wine, the bartenders were told to pour the cheapest wine, despite what the customer ordered. The list goes on, and on, and on. I can't believe this place is still in business. Please, if you have had a similar experience, go to the Labour Board and/or the Better Business Bureau. It is not fair that the owner of Coco Lezzone can get away with treating people like this. Forget the food, prices, and aura. This is about human rights!!!

Coco Lezzone is a little passe, but still fine if you live nearby and want to get a drink without leaving the hood. A nice drink list, a not so large wine list, above average bar food and pretty hit or miss service. I would never tell anyone who didn't live close to check it out. If you do live close it's a nice spot especially when the patio is open during the summer. Have a few and then walk or bike back home.

June 21, 2009 - Doesn't like it - I had always been a fan of Coco Lezzone, however after visiting today (fathers day) with dad, I have to say I'll never be coming back. For years we have been celebrating birthdays/anniversaries/etc at this place. Today's experience was one of a kind. Our waiter was retarded and never placed our order (the restaurant was not even half full), as such our food took 1 hour to arrive. In addition, my glass of wine was dirty (somebody roses lipstick was on it) and instead of completely changing the glass of wine, the waiter not only forgot to apologize but poured the same wine that was in the dirty wine glass onto the new glass. Halfway through the meal my sister ordered a glass of wine & her glass was dirty too! Our food as a result of the delay was overcooked. To finish up the evening I left my sunglasses on the table and as I was walking out of the restaurant realized I had forgot them. Not even a minute had gone by & my glasses were gone, I asked the waiter for them & he said they had no found anything, I explosned it was impossible as I had just walked out of the restaurant, he then asked to come back in 15 mins..no why would I do that??? After explaining to the waiter these glasses are prescrption sunglasses, he then (right on my face) pulled them from under the counter!!! I hope this never happens to any of you. However I have shared my experience & hope this never happens to you. BUYER BE AWARE!

Just so you know, those servers are long gone- the turnover of staff there is pretty intense. I've been here plenty of times and have probably seen only one familiar face. I just went for dinner last night, sat on the patio and received above average service. As for the owner, he may not have amazing people skills, but he does care that his restaurant runs smoothly and that his guests are treated well. I personally did not see any kind of rudeness on his part, he was actually helping out the waitress in the front of the restaurant since it was packed, so he doesn't seem like a bad guy. I would definitely come again on a weekend!

The food is inconsistent; for example- the seafood platter is sometimes overcooked and other times undercooked. On the last visit, I almost vomited at the table because the calamari was essentially raw. The waiter was either drunk or just didn't give a shit- he took the menus from our table (there were 4 of us) leaving only one menu for the four of us- and this was prior to us even ordering. We actually went to the bar and asked to speak with the manager to complain about the waiter and found out that, indeed, the "Manager" was the waiter serving our table. The worker then turned red in the face and laughed- I am guessing that this is not the first time a customer has asked to speak to the manager because of the poor, indifferent service they are receiving from their waiter, only to find out that their waiter is indeed the "Manager" himself. It gets better, after almost puking up the calamari that was undercooked, we asked the "Manager" to send the calamari back to the chef to have it cooked a little more. We never did receive the cooked calamari because we later found out that another table had been given the recooked calamari- maybe they were pleased with their visit?
Never again. The food is overpriced, the service is terrible, the tension is palpable between the manager and the other waiters at the restaurant (feel bad for them). Just a poor experience all around.

I think that even one star is too much for this god-forsaken shiThole of a restaurant...
Since there is so much wrong with this place, I will limit my review to alert future customers of the garbage they are paying for (the food). The cooking is ALL about shortcuts, no chicken stock, cheap ingredients, and did I mention shortcuts. For example the mushroom rissoto with truffle oil, is not really truffle oil, its 90% olive oil 10% truffle, though the price is not adjusted to reflect the cost of producing the dish.
Other acts of theft on the part of the owners and managers occur commonly. I have seen on several occasions, the manager add extra items on a customers bill if he believes the customer is drunk enough and will not notice. These people at Coco lezzone are theifs, and if you decide to go blow your money on the garbage they serve, check your bill carefully. Chances are they'll add an item you never ordered.
In addition, the bald assh_le Steve as sited in many of these reviews is the owner, and it is true...I can confirm from my experience of working with him that he is indeed an asshole. He is abusive and oppressive to his staff, which is the reason I quit. I have seen him push his wait staff with force and scream in peoples faces. He has absolutely no redeming qualities, he is nothing but a peice of shit, much like the food he serves. His abominable treatment of the kitchen staff reflects in the quality of the cooking, which is another reason you may not want to eat there.
College street has so many mediteranean and Italian restaurants, don't wast your time on Coco

This place is terrible! We wanted to check it out as part of Winterlicious 2009. We made a "reservation", only to find that when we get there, I have to chase down somone..(must be the A-hole described by others). When I let him know I have a reservation, he barley looked at me, didn't ask my name, just said Okay and walked away. We left immediately I would not spend a dime there. Was there for a b-day party this past saturday and overall I must say this place ROCKS ! -- Very cool atmosphere and the staff is over the top. We were sat in the back and watched a packed house served out this beautiful open kitchen. The food was amazing and the wine list by far one of the best in the city and of course the complimentry bar shots just put it over the top. Hmmm - Billy and RAY are identically semi-illiterate. If you're going to try to sound like 2 different people you have to try a lot harder than this.
Why don't you go find that homeless person that the Coco's staff assaulted and buy him a glass of wine. He deserves it more than I do.
The staff probably still laugh about it so I'm sure you can get them to tell you the story.

I was at Coco Lezzone Saturday night and I have one word to describe the experience. WOW!
The food was amazing - the seafood platter is a must but make sure you save room for either the mushroom risotto or the Sea bass. Our night ended with the owner going out of his way to send us port and what could possibly be the biggest fruit platter I have ever seen in my lifetime.
This was all during what I would consider to be one of the busiest dinner services in a long time in this city. Sure - you could go to One or Colborne Lane but I dare you to tell me the name of the manager or owner there. Thanks go to Danny and Steven. You guys truly know how to make a customer feel like a VIP.
See you again this weekend!!

I am sure most of the readers of this site have been to Montreal and we can all agree that there is a major difference between Toronto and Montreal. Both cities seem to have quite the gastranomical experience but yet Montreal has always been the older cousin to Toronto in terms of the whole supperclub experience. From bottle service and killer music to beautiful people providing eye candy, Montreal has always provided places to dine and party in one convenient package whereas Toronto is not known so much for high end cuisine and club like atmosphere rolled up in one.
Upon my arrival to Toronto, let's just say I was PLEASANTLY surprised by Coco Lezzone. The owner was quite the host, the food was out of this world (try the sea bass, the sea food platter and of course - ask for the veal chop off the menu) and their knowledge of wines was picture perfect. The music and "vibe" reminded me of a night on St. Laurent in Montreal and the bar was packed with beautiful people.
Thank you again to the staff of Coco's for making my weekend in Toronto memorable and above all - I look forward to my next visit!

FIVE glowing reviews of Coco Lezzone on the same day! That's amazing!
The person who wrote them all even tried to make the reviews sound like a bunch of different people! Just trying to knock the negative reviews further down the page, I guess.
All I know is a few years ago I saw the staff kick the shit out of a homeless guy right in front of the restaurant. Since that moment I've told everybody to stay away from this horrible place.

I'm very upset at the reviews written on this site about this restaurant!!! Coco lezzone has been around 4 over 10 years & there is definatley reasons for this!! It's been one of my favourites & still is! It's unfortunate that some people didn't have a great experience but then again some people r very hard to please. I have recommended this restaurant many times & always heard positive feedback! Its still at the top of my list!

If you see a bald manager running the show - just leave. This guy is rude, arrogant, and completely clueless about how to run a restaurant. He thinks coco lezzone is club 54 circa 1970's. Sorry dude - its college west in toronto, 2008. This restaurent is a dime a dozen. You can get the same meal at about 5 other places minus the a**hole manager who could care less about you.

I'm not sure about the food because we didn't make it to dinner due to the bad service. We called ahead as we were running late and were told 'no problem'. When we arrived we told a 1/2 hour wait, but told to either wait on the sidewalk and the manager will come get us, or we could go to the bar IF we were going to get a drink. After ordering a bottle of wine at the bar, the manager walked by and let us know the table we'd be seated at. When the other diners left, we sat, only to be told by the manager to "NEVER seat yourself in my restaurant". We are pretty easy going people, and i've never been spoken to like that at a restaraunt in my life. we just left. After reading previous similar reviews, obviously don't give this place your money.

Imagine, I went there for my birthday yesterday, and there was a group of about 20 people and this is quite literally how my night went:
Initially when I got there, there was hardly anyone at the restaurant. They crammed us into two tables, even though i gave them a reservation of 20. Then they started yelling at us, saying that we would have to move our tables (even though they were the ones who set it up that way) and screaming about how we were blocking fire exits.
The waiter did not pick up our plates at any time and we had to give him our plates.
After being there for an hour, (it was my bday celebration) the waiter comes up to me and asks that we wrap it up, because they have ppl waiting in the front and would like to give them space.
I would not reccomend this restuarant. One goes to a restaurant to talk, enjoy times with good friends/family or your partner. This involves you not being hurried.
Sad thing is that I actually asked the manager before reserving that we would not be rushed, he said we would not, but we were.
Worst experience ever! And I would not reccomend their gnocchi!

Too cramped for our Christmas Party of 15. The waiter brought us some strong cocktails and watched us become happier. Then they decided that we are happy enough not to notice how many bottles of wine were opened and charged us for 3 extra bottles. They also offered to bring platters of seafood instaed of individual plates - they were small and overpriced. So stick with your own plate if you decide to go.
Management promised reimbursement for the overcharge, and then chose not to answer our calls.
Overrated and unprofessional!

I had dinner there as part of the Winterlicious promotion.
If I had paid the menu price of over $30 for that braised lamb shank with garlic mashed potatoes and 2 pieces of vegetables (literally a floret of broccoli and a smigeon of red pepper), I would be extremely Angry. The meat did properly fall off the bone except it was completely devoid of flavour. The brown salty "jus" did not help either. To give Coco Lezzone some credit, the atmosphere was jovial and they kept the rustic bread a coming, too bad for the cheap balsamic vinegar.

You are rushed out of what could be a good dining experience. Amazing caesar salad and seafood platters. However, it's often too loud, too cramped and too rushed. Too bad!
