Clerks II
Jul. 24, 2006 - Brad Jamieson
Which is not to say that Clerks II is a complete waste of time; while conversations are still as raunchy and clever as they were in the original, we experience an actual storyline. The boys have now moved on from working at the Quick Stop to Mooby’s, a themed fast-food joint. The shift in working environment is not of their liking – as the film’s opening scene indicates.
Dante is torn between two women again, including the store’s gorgeous manager (Rosario Dawson), whose interest in this slob is one of the movie’s great mysteries. Dante is sick of minimum-wage life and wants to move on. And his ticket out of Jersey is his fiancée, Emma (Jennifer Schwalbach, the real-life Mrs. Smith). His fiancée has convinced him to move from Jersey to Florida and run one of her father’s car washes.
Meanwhile, Randal is feeling the bottom fall out of his meager existence when he realizes that his only friend is about to disappear forever. He can't wrap his head around the fact that his friend would leave him… and New Jersey. Dante’s final day at Mooby’s turns out to be a packed adventure – guided along with the presence of Mooby’s manager Becky (Dawson). Dawson is smart and irresistible– watch out for the long scene of Dawson bopping along to the Jackson 5's ABC.
