    Review by Aaron Jacobs
Grand, even exhilarating at times, but showcasey and slightly overrated.

Whether the focus is on the grand room, the exhilarating menu or a $500 bottle of California Cab, Centro has become one of the city's most successful, respected and influential restaurants of the current generation. Almost five years have passed since executive chef Bruce Woods and manager Tony Longo bought Centro from its creator, Franco Prevedello and the place now seems entirely their own.

Dining-room service at Centro has always been good and fortunately the serious attitude at the door occurs no longer. Everybody from the reservationists to the busser is genuine; relaxed and professional. Waiters proceed with effortless authority even when serving your tenderloin (it comes with adorable little stuffed vegetables that look like marzipan). Just as you'll forget Prevedello's absence, you'll forget the staff's discreet presence. At least until they bring dessert, which holds its own with the rest of the menu, including the best chocolate soufflé we've had in recent memory.

We were happy to get a rare summerlicious reservation to Centro but couldn't have been more disappointed. The service was terrible - it took our waiter 30 minutes to take our drink order, we were never offered pepper or cheese, no one ever stopped by our table to ask how our meal was - and the food was mediocre at best. The room is big and loud and not conducive to an intimate night out. Overall we were very disappointed and don't know what the big deal is about this restaurant. If you want a great meal try Celestin instead.

We went to the restaurant during the Winterliciuos festvial because they had advertised beef on the menu on their website. We love beef! When we got there the beef had been replaced by Pork (which we can't eat due to religious reasons). We were disappointed because the website hadn't been updated. We found out that the Pork was added to the menu at the beginning of Winterlicious as the Beef kept getting sent back to the kitchen by the customers. This only added to our disappointment because it meant that the restaurant negleted for months to update their website!

The manager was initially unwilling to accomodate us and was quite frankly very insulting. We spent approximately 20 minutes convincing him that Centro has a responsibility to correctly advertise their menu and due to this 'screw up' the customer should be accomodated. This is something should be expected from any restaurant especially one of this calibur.

We finally got him to offer us chicken (not beef) in place of the pork.

Needless to say, we won't be coming back!

Totally disagree with Martiniboys 2 star rating... Centro is one of the few restaurants in this city that consistantly rates 4 stars. Great food, Exceptional wine list and well mannered staff.
