    Review by Ellen Jakobsmeier
Located just down the street from Little Italy, Cataplana is one of THE Portuguese restos in the city for Grilled Chourico, if not the moonshine. The restaurant takes its name from the types of dishes they serve (very unoriginal, I know); a variety of vegetables and meat (clams, seafood or pork) is cooked in a massive copper dome/wok style device with a matching copper lid called the Cataplana. As a result of this boiling/steaming cooking combination, your dinner arrives full of flavour, meat juicy and succulent, and vegetables doused in the accompanying sauces. Your server also acts as an experience sommelier, recommending a perfectly matching bottle of vino to accompany your dinner from their well-stocked cellar. For cigar aficionados, inquire about the cigar room for a post meal puff to end a truly enjoyable evening. - E.J.

DO NOT EAT THERE YOU"LL DEFINATELY THINK TWICE AFTER READING THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
The service was horrible, the waiter(claimed to be manager that night) was the rudest person that i had ever delt with. no customer sevice skills what so ever. i had order the seafood cataplana and on the menu it had mentioned shrimps, scallops and clams. i have to mention that when i recieved my plate there was nothing but white fish one scallop and one shrimp along with no clams. so i confronted the waiter as to what the cataplana of seafood consisted of and he went about telling me exactly what the menu had mentioned, once i had told him that none of that was in there he said "well i shouldn't have to explain everything to you on the menu", give me a break that's your job, to notify the client that you have a lack of material for specific dishes. and on top of that he had the guts to charge me for the seafood cataplana which is $35 when really he gave me the fish cataplana which is $25.
i must also mention that if your any younger than the age of 35 good luck getting good sevice. we are in our 20's and they wouldn't even look at us it took half hour to get out drinks (which was simply wine and water) it took another half hour to order our food and it took 1 hour to get our food. meanwhile, a family also of 4 came in about 20min after us and recieved everything before us.i also have to mention that the resturant was not even busy, so there were no excuses as to why the service was so crummy.

All i have to say is if you want to be IGNORED go to this resturant.

WORST PLACE I"VE EVER BEEN TO EAT IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!! never again!!
~this resturant has already gone under and i believe it will happen again very soon.Due to the experience that i have had with the service

Was recently there for Summerlicious. Unfortunately didn't make it past the front door. We had reservations but the party behind us got seated first. When we complained the waiter just gave us a patronizing look. By the way, the restaurant was half empty at this time. We just turned around and left.

Great food cannot hide the bad taste of nasty, stuck up service.

Hey guys - the customer is not doing YOU a favour by showing up.
