The seasonally changing menu features the braised rabbit ($30) with grain mustard and an elevated arrangement of braised onions, and the yellow fin tuna ($39), slightly seared and lusciously rare throughout and a green olive tapinade - suggested with a Darioush Merlot 99. Most items are listed with frites, but a not-mentioned garlic mashed is a rich, smooth choice as well.
Crisp skin salmon ($29) was done with a tip of the hat to Japan, and I'm sure Japan is flattered. The fish was creamy inside, perfectly crispy outside, dressed with an uncomplicated, pleasantly sweet soy glaze, with soybeans and new potatoes. Roasted Canadian rack of lamb ($43) with garlic citrus created a glossy, dark glaze, and the herb pesto had a real zing to it. Desserts are luscious, eschewing the trend toward the foofy and formal: Chocolate torte, fruit and nut tart, or try living a little - you won't regret sampling that syrup-induced pumpkin pecan bread pudding. Yes, pumpkin. - S.W.

9 Reader Reviews | Loved it. I'm a huge food critic and heard mixed reviews about Bymark (overpriced vs not). Was it cheap? No, certainly not. But I have no quams about spending money on something I enjoy... and this is exactly what I did. A girlfriend and I had a wonderful dinner. The waiter was fabulous and recommended a wine (which I argued, and he conceded upon tasting, did not taste anything like a Cab Sauv but more like a Shiraz) that we quite enjoyed, provided with a half-order of two appies that we couldn't chose bw and then served us impressive entrees and a fabulous dessert. All of this took place outside, under a heater (we like outdoors but get cold easily) and near the garden.
Great experience and I'm going back in two weeks.

My boyfriend took me to dinner at Bymark last week for my birthday and I was thoroughly pleased.
The service was excellent - efficient and professional.
The food was delicious. From quite a long menu as well as a listing of daily specials recited by our gracious waitress, I managed to decide on the salad special, which was Burrata Cheese (buffalo mozzarella made with cream)with Sauteed Cherry Tomatoes and Parma Ham on Arugula, followed by the Seared Day Boat Scallops with Dungeness Crab Ravioli with Sun Spot Carrots, Celery, Crab Bisque & Citrus Butter. The scallops were the tenderest and most flavourful scallops I've ever tasted. The portion was deceptively small (3 scallops, 3 ravioli) but it was quite filling and I (sadly) had no room for dessert. Beautiful presentation and beautifully matched flavours.
My boyfriend had the Crisp Frites With Butter Braised Lobster &
Classic Béarnaise “Poutine Style” followed by the Bymark Burger 8 oz. U.S.D.A Prime Beef With Brie de Meaux, Crisp Pancetta,
Grilled Porcini, Shaved Truffles & Crisp Onion Rings. The poutine was absolutely decadent, not an appetizer for the faint of heart! If you're not a big eater, consider splitting it with someone else. The burger was everything it was made out to be. It came perfectly medium rare (as requested).
Because we were both too full for dessert, we ordered coffee instead, and were pleasantly suprised when it came with a tray of complimentary miniature madeleines and tiny cheesecake bites. Delicious!

We had dinner during Summerlicious 2007 with another couple. Our expectations were not high because of other experiences we've had with Summerlicious high end restaurants, but I am pleased to say that they exceeded them!
Food was exceptional, delicious flavors and gorgeous presentation. Service was very good too (wine and water continuously refilled, bread brought to the table several times). Our wait staff were accommodating and friendly. I would definitely go back for a regular dinner.
The patio was also fantastic. It was a bit nippy out so the wait staff brought over a heater to keep the chill off...and when that heater ran out of gas, they replaced it relatively quickly!
A definite recommendation!

This is not a review of the restaurant, Bymark, it is simply a comment on the other reviews posted...
I've been going through the posts and have found some to be lacking (I'm interested in trying Bymark out and luckily there was one review that made sense!)
How am I supposed to make a good judgment when the reviews are not descriptive?
I don't know if anyone else has the same issue, but I'd just like to point out that is helpful if you describe the REASONS why you like/dislike a restaurant/lounge or club.
Listing the reasons why you found the service, food, and ambiance to be lacking is important for other readers to get a sense of the place. Simply stating “All I can say is that if you think this place is 4 stars - you seriously need to upgrade you taste buds!!!” doesn’t mean much. What is it that wasn’t to your satisfaction? That statement is too vague and is useless for anyone who is trying to decide whether to patron the establishment or not.

The food was good not great.
The service was...bad.
At this calibre, one would expect a certain level of 5 star service especially at $120 tasting menu, one is expecting something of a Lumiere experience (a la Rob Feenie's in Vancouver) but with one of Toronto's star chef at the helm...well, come on...let's show those west coaster's that us Torontonians have some standards and world class as well. It started with our reservation being delayed by "10-15 minutes" as per our hostess. We were ushered to the upstairs drink lounge where NO ONE came to take or drink order or clear the table filled with empty martini's and high ballers. 30 mins later...still no follow up on the table until I asked--talk about lack of initiative! Dinner was very 'wham,bam..." with the butter for our dinner baguette being thrown onto the table. Has anyone felt like being herded like cattle? Albeit, we did dine during winterlicious...I have to wonder if the poor treatment was due to the 'discounted" meal we were having...LIKE HELLO??? No one forced you (ByMark) to provide a prix fixe at a lower cost. Didn't you participate because it is a slow season for dining out and also because it is good PR? Restaurants such as this should clean up their service act as dining out is not only about the food but also about the experience but I don't have to point that out if you have been a good foodie.
Clearly, ByMark has missed their mark.
