 rite this down: Queen East is becoming the next, next West Queen West (as soon as little Portugal has been properly dealt with). Along with the requisite warehouse conversions, cafes, resto-lounges, and highly influential culture e-zines (ahem) have also started popping up along Queen East, east of the river.
The latest niche filler (it's great when a niche gets filled), the Burger Shoppe, a neighbourhood grill with a local ethos, is frying up fresh diner-type fare to the local masses. Importing milkshake-ready ice cream from much loved, Beach-based Ed's, as well as employing local designers and artisans, the Burger Shoppe espousea a neighbourhood vibe. Arrive expecting burgers, fries, and veggie-friendly options. -S.T.

14 Reader Reviews | Best burgers I've ever had, hands down. When I'm in Toronto's Leslieville area, I have to eat Burger Shoppe least once.

Why eat at Burger Shoppe?
* Because they have the best tasting burgers in all of the RIverside area.
* Because their burgers are huge and juicy
* Because they never disappoint
* Because the prices are reasonable
* Because you can call in, and the staff will be waiting for you.

I'd been once to Burger Shoppe and had quite a good organic cheeseburger with excellent condiments and great sweet potato fries. Also a thick, old-fashioned milkshake. But the service was barely adequate that time. Tonight I dropped by around 8 for a second visit and ended up waiting 25 minutes to place my order. There were a number of frustrated and, in some cases, angry customers, some of whom had been waiting for nearly an hour. Orders were being mixed up by the two young people manning the grill. I paid for my pop and left, deciding life is too short. I don't know if the two workers were grossly unskilled or just overworked and frazzled. (Maybe there needs to be three staff working? Someone more experienced managing things?) Anyway, I won't be back. Ultimately, it's just a burger and I can make organic burgers in less than the time I waited trying to place my order.

I was so hyped about going to this place and I was definitely devastated. The burgers are too small for the price. The burger reminded me of any average fast food place in Toronto. Its ok for a quick bite.

They claim to have the best burgers in town. The $$$$ burgers comes with an assortment of accessories, but overall, it was just average. I work in the area so the convenience and the service can't beat the price. The meat is fantastic though, and the portion is sporadic.

I ordered a cheeseburger, fries with gravy and a vanilla milkshake. The cheeseburger was pretty good, the fries were soggy, the gravy was watery and the milkshake tasted only like milk without the ice cream and vanilla extract. Im the future and only if I was in the area, I would just order a burger for takeout and stop off somewhere else to pick up the rest of the order.
