aw wood beams and black tones dominate Brassai, the hulking resto-lounge on King West. A vivid-aluminum, communal breakfast bar cuts a dramatic slash across the entire dining room. Simple tables are superbly appointed, most notably by the oversized leather blotters. The open kitchen gives diners a view of the action while minimizing kitchen noise and smoke.
On our first visit, the Moroccan shellfish stew, smothered in a rich sauce, was an almost ethereal experience, as was the toothsome risotto, served with arugula and black olives. Other entree highlights included beef short ribs with a potato pure¥» crispy-skinned roast chicken with chick-pea fries; and grilled calves liver with sour cherry jus.
The appetizer selection includes a couple of bold choices, such as citrus tuna with couscous and beets and yogurt, and balsamic chicken livers that includes grilled polenta. Extra touches distinguish other appetizers: A fig and stilton crostini adds an elegant touch to a salad of apples and arugula, and a little roasted quail plays brilliantly against potato gnocchi in garlic cream.
The wine list is loosely organized by region, and includes enough high-end and modest wines to satisfy the oenophile as well as the bargain hunter, and those who are a bit of both. Waiters don't offer wine advice, and they, or someone else, really should.

In regards to those who had an unpleasant encounter at Brassai, I'd like to thank the bouncers for keeping nasty people such as yourselves out of the space. Your arrogance and contempt for others is not wanted, please keep it to yourselves, and stay away from downtown.
Brassai has excellent food, wonderful service, and their staff does a great job protecting their patrons from hostile losers such as these. A welcome refuge from pretension!

I totally love this place. Love it to the point that my wife and I got married here and Brassaii hosted both for the ceremony and the reception. Brassaii holds special events on request with careful consideration to setup and menu needs. The establishment took loving care in accommodating our requests and the whole day/evening was simply amazing and magical. Flawless execution on service and drop dead gorgeous custom menu from the chef's team. The service extended not just in the restaurant but outside of it as well to the courtyard. Gus especially went above and beyond by ordering matching flowers for the ceremony!!!! Bravo to Brassaii.

Listen Marcella, before you go and call somebody a "dumbass", and make yourself look like a fool, i would invest sometime and learn how to spell "obnoxious", not abnoxious. secondly, you did not see anything, because we entered from the back, and we did not step on your shoes, and i was not drunk, go read the Police report.
as for your comment as to where i should dine, or how much money i can afford to spend, you will never have access to the places i go to, and the money i spend. i'm not going to continue to defend myself or the situation, because I don't have to justify to anyone what happened that night, and it clearly shows through your message Marcella that you are a very uneducated person, who runs her mouth using foul language. get yourself a thesaurus and learn the basics of expressing yourself and behaving like an adult.

I was at the last event and witnessed the whole thing. This dumbass was drunk, rude and abnoxious....stepping on peoples feet and pushing me and my two girlfriends trying to sneak in.
I have been going to this establishment for many years and always had a great time. Friendly staff and good food. Love going to these sun spa parties ...always fun til some loser ruins it for everybody, because he cannot afford $10 to get in.
Hey buddy Zellers has no cover ...GO HANG OUT THERE !!!
I hate liers. He was escorted out for being drunk in line and trying to sneak in.
This event was fantastic...great music and vibe...can't wait for the next event
Don't be a hater

in repsonse to natalies review or "comment", listen Natalie you weren't there, and you have no idea what you are talking about. I payed to get in btw, my friend didn't have cash on her, so she went in to take out money because the bouncer told her she could, when she couldn't we were not thrown I was assaulted, choknig somebody is not escorting somebody out. i know the difference. and why in the world would I want to go back into brassai after being assaulted? would you? and you keep on saying free of charge, i payed to get in honey...get your facts straight. i wish no one to experience what i did that night, and btw Natalie why don't you advertise what spa you run, so people can get an idea of the hostile and negative behavior that YOUR staff exhibit at these events. before i forget i hope this place goes out of business...there is enough competition in this city with venues that promote friendly and positive energy. i have lived in chicago for several years and have never had such an incident occur to me there ever...i will never support RA Sunspas events, and will spread the word to fellow members in the media and music industries.

I have to agree with the positive reviews - the person who had a bad nightclub / bouncer experience must be confused as to where they were...
The weekend brunch is a fabulous experience - weeknights the food is always good, the service tries hard... if it is a bit pokey the management tries to make amends.
Good place for an office party by the way...
It is refreshing to find a King St W restaurant that is still TRYING to win you over.

in response to jakubs review.
BRASSAII is a great establishment and they are very professional. Great food and Staff!!!
Hi Jakub, I think that i should respond to your commments since it was me that responded to your email last Saturday March 10/07. You asked if we could add you +2 people to our guestlist and i responded back with I'm sorry but guestlist was really limited for this party we had no more available room. I also informed you that it was a $20 cover per person. So you say that when you got to Brassaii the doorman said the guestlist was closed but you weren't on it to begin with. I manage the spa and even all my friends had to pay full cover and they did happily because they LOVE to support us at all our parties. YOU WERE THROWN OUT BY SECURITY BECAUSE YOU GOT CAUGHT SNEAKING IN WITH YOUR TWO FRIENDS! In response to the police officer not doing his job.... When the police got to Brassaii they spoke with everyone involved and made their decision based on what all parties had said. The worst part of all JAKUB is that we were going to let you and your friends in for free because you do come out to all the parties and support.
