Filling up rapidly, the Teppanyaki and Donburi were so good that we had no trouble clearing our plates. Like Japanese udon and soba noodle bowls, this Japanese bar food offers large, flavourful portions at great prices (ranging from $6.99 to $12.99).
Bikkuri meets the needs of the busy lunch time crowd with relative ease. Satisfied with the lunch and swept up by the bustle, my friend and I even managed to broker some deals of our own before heading back to the office. On the way out, I grabbed a paper menu for future reference. The back is peppered with lunchtime specials such as the chicken teriyaki lunch ($7.99) and the shrimp tempura lunch ($9.99), both served with miso soup, salad and rice. Others include the sushi lunch (miso soup, salad, 5 pcs of sushi, 6pcs of cucumber maki and 6pcs of salmon or tuna maki, $12.99) and the maki sushi lunch (miso soup, salad, 6pcs California maki, 4pcs Futo Maki and 6pcs of sake or tuna maki, $12.99). While also open for dinner, the dinner crowd seems sparse and inconsistent, again reflecting the nature of Bikkuri’s central downtown location. - J.Z.
