  • Avenue

The Lounge at The Four Seasons has long been a martini-fueled Toronto clubhouse, even back when It was known as La Serre. Avenue is a chichi networking hub, the place where the idle famous blow out their rich, little livers, and where generations of modern-fabuloso come to do the same. The space is awash in bright (okay, beige) cleanliness, adorned with candles and little Zen gardens.

The lounge is a showcase for fusion fashion; a genteel marriage of the local produce, abundant local old ladies and masculinized lunchroom white-collar men, great, naked planks of real estate ladies (well, under their clothes anyway). Creamy local waitresses are oh so happy to serve yet another Beefeater on the rocks. This is what the cosmopolitan life is like, even without cosmopolitans.

Like the place itself - polished wood, warm lighting, booths often filled with downtown business types - executive chef Robert Bartley’s offerings are unintimidating and classy. Organic Teriyaki Salmon on a bed of Spinach and Shiitake Mushrooms is lightly seasoned with Sesame-Ginger Vinaigrette and makes for a delicious lunch option. For dinner dining, the Chicken Curry and Basmati Rice plate served with traditional Chutney is stocked with a myriad of exotic spices pleasing to the palate. If you find the dish a tad overwhelming, there’s a fabulous store of beer on tap in case of a severe spice overload.

The Avenue rides the rebirth of the hotel lounge. It is an elegant smoke-filled lounge knee-deep in history. If we're gonna plunk down a wad of dough for some bad-ass martinis, we may as well do it at a swank cocktail spot.

Many will come just for the wine, cocktail and martini menu. This place has been a local fixture forever. Models and visiting film industry glitterati nibble at tiny portions of haute cuisine while hovering around the bar sipping vintages. The attitude, of course, is directly proportionate to the look (take that however you want). - A.J.

This lady's showin' her age. For a Four Seasons, it doesn't measure up. I'm on the Executive level which helps, but not much. The afternoon tea is mediocre, but free.

I know it's soooo five years ago, and I always seem to miss the celebrity sightings here, but I am always consoled by the excellent drinks. The best of the bunch is the Avenue cocktail ($25.00!!). Trust me on this. It is made with gin, but utterly delicious. And with the lovely and talented ladies working that night, even better.

Re: Today. Avenue may be more than Toronto residents can appriciate. They seem to know the business and don't need crude and insulting revews from people that don't know price and quality in the same sentence. This establishment offers quality food and excellent service from a proffesional wait staff. Customers without a sense of dinning appriciation should stick to the Big Mac and Whopper joints!! I am embarrased about the poor reveiw I have read. Grow up and get a touch of class.

Truly disappointing. I dropped over $190 for a "fine dining lunch? for three and honestly could have found better frozen food. The concept was wonderful and the lounge was beautiful. Just disappointed in the quality of the food that you pay for. Understandable that the concept is a difficult one to master, but the staff could have truly done a better job. Good service seemed to be only given by server support staff and the waitstaff just didn't seem to care. I may be too critical but am in the restaurant business as well.

It was a really good time. Drinks were expensive but it was elegantly decorated and you could relax on the banquettes and cushions. Crowded but you could move, breathe and get a drink if you needed. All and all fun time, some cool people. Avenue is better decorated and classier than most Toronto lounges but nothing too spectacular.

Given the cachet and the power-schmoozing d?cor of Avenue, I really wanted to like this place... but the atrocious service simply left too much to be desired. We were seated at a comfortable solarium table for two perched over Yorkville Ave, and things looked fairly promising at first. I had to keep my optimism in check, however, when the server asked me, what was a Godmother martini (it's really not all THAT recherch? these days). In any case, the actual cocktail I was served was O.K., except it was almost half as empty/full? as my partner's... My sense of unfulfillment about this place was piqued all the more when our dizzy server did not return to refresh our drinks until well after I had been forced to consume inordinate quantities of Avenue bar snacks - almonds, olives and pearl onions (my hands needed something to distract themselves from the empty glass in front of me). This negligence happened not once, but twice, all the while preventing me
from getting a decent cocktail buzz of any kind. The only saving grace of my visit to Avenue was the "Tempting Fate" cocktail. It almost saved the whole experience for me (almost). You mostly taste the champagne, but among other things Raspberry Stoli, Brandy, I think Chambord, and then the champs. Exquisite. Overall, it's unfortunate that Avenue doesn't believe in ensuring that a polished, professional staff reflect the calibre of the ambience and drinks.

we love the cocktail waitresses, but not so much the lurching overbearing suits who try to micro manage this fine establishment. let us have some fun, after all we are paying for it, and don't dictate what we can wear, or else risk ending up with a bunch of boring haireds, sipping their one martini for hours before their 7pm curfew, will be interesting to see if they throw out a STAR during the festival for wearing ripped or torn $1000.00 jeans after 6pm... let us just see....

Whoever said youth is king? Avenue is anything but young. But hey, this place just oozes power. If you're seeking or just looking, older women with 20 something bodies or men with power outfits, this is the pace to find them. Gorgeous room, designer food combined with "A" list people, and you've got Avenue. Go for the food, the signature martinis or just to be seen, but go! Avenue.
