Drawing in a quiet patronage, this wine-focused eatery provides a nice departure from the beer-swigging crowd that frequents other restaurants in the neighbourhood. The service is pleasant, though not overbearing; do not expect to be doted on. Also, do not be intimidated by the commonly middle-aged crowd or the location; younger crowds are a welcomed change and prices are more decent than anticipated.

“Avant Goût”, literally means before taste, but has evolved into a colloquial “come over for a taste”. Either way, with the unforgettable Avant Goût, those that try it will need more than just a taste. - L.P.

Took my date here on valentine's day. Food was very enjoyable, service was friendly, and I'm recommending this place to my friends. You can't go wrong here, a sure-fire bet for any occasion.

I have been quite a few times over the past couple of years or so and it has remained a consistant source for gastronomic delight! Kamal, chef/owner, continually impresses with his varied menu and flavours combined. The grilled Calamari is a must on every visit. The regular menu (incredible as it is) is always supported by delectable evening specials. It's just the kind of place though that you only tell your best friends about, as it's tiny, cozy atmosphere fills in quickly and I'd hate to be turned away!

This was the first time that I have been to Avant gout. So, I cannot judge what it used to be like as bothing in common. However, I can say that my dinner was a nice surprise. The food was excellent and attention by the by server were perfect.

The food and service are as excellent as they were on my first visit here shortly after the restaurant opened, and I have returned about four or five times and continue to be greatly impressed. The Moroccan lamb stew was a particular standout. The service was erratic, but attentive and professional.
