The restaurateur, who partnered with financier Zool Gova (Gova & Co.), designed Arthurs with Philip Di Noto (Neue Designs) to give the space a dark composure that somehow makes you feel more attractive just by walking through the door. And while it doesn't innovate, it does surprise in little touches; for example, the retro glasses from Holt Renfrew on every table.

Chef Teddy Peris (Sassafraz, Sarkis) and executive sous chef Michael Lyons (Canoe) have taken their places at the stoves, working a small plate concept that takes its inspiration from Peris’ experience in Europe and Southeast Asia. With an eye toward cholesterol and calorie awareness, Peris’ plates offer French cuisine with Thai, Burmese Vietnamese and Cambodian accents.

Eating small plates tends to make people relax and take it easy, and it's no different with Peris' fare. He's created a menu of mostly half-size portions. Certain menu items do riff on traditional dishes, like the Black Angus Beef Fillet Mignon with Madagascar pepper sauce. The difference is that Peris' version is a smaller cut and clocks in at a mere $17.00.

It's same with the Rack of New Zealand Lamb ($17.00), a smaller version served with a pear and mint salad. The Baked Atlantic Salmon ($14.00) with coconut tamarind beurre blanc or Atlantic Lobster Medallion ($16.00) with steamed asparagus and citrus jasmine rice do just fine in small proportions, thank you very much. And if eating light means a lifetime of Muscovy Duck and Foe Gras with truffle port wine essence, you can sign us up. - D.E.

    Nice layout.

Too bad the owner/operator is a major crack head. Seeing her venture off to the ladys room with your "gfs" an doing her deed wasnt something i care to notice...

    Welcome to Toronto !

fromage, for such a hip local.... shame.

THIS WAS THE WORST DINNING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! I am so happy to hear that they have stopped serving food. My boyfriend and I went there for feb 14th last year and was served by the owner as well. We spent over 300$ on cold raw rubber tasting food, ordered 100$ champage that they didnt even keep on ice or at our table. Did I forget to mention that we had to keep our winter coats on the entire time? I swear it was 20 below. Then to top it all off they added the grat themselves on our bill 30% for the owner who did such an amazing job?? This could hands down be the worst bar/resturant in Toronto. STAY AWAY, and take peace in knowing that they do not serve food anymore.

I dont know what Sleepless is talking about, this place was such a pleasant surprise! The service and hospitality was amazing! We found out Bird was under renovations and so instead we decided to check out Arthurs, which was the best decision of the night!! We almost ended up walking to Lily, but Arthurs just had this really cool vibe! Another great night, away from club district! I think people like Sleepless should stay in Oshawa and pre-drink all night instead! Been there a couple of times now and the best part about it is the stunning people that tend to flock there each time I go!

They no longer serve food. Decor is nice. Place was empty on a Thursday night at 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. probably because there is no food. They were out of the wine we ordered, but surprisingly the bartender recommended another that was good and less expensive than our original bottle.

This was the worst dining experience we have ever had. We live in the area and like to support the local businesses. We arranged for a table of 13 for a very close friends 39th birthday on Saturday night. We had been to Arthurs for dinner last year and thought it was ok and worthy of another try. It was cool space. Unfortunately our experience on Saturday night was an absolute nightmare. We were the only table in the place and we were served by the owner Fareeza Ali. Not only was the food of poor quality and nothing like we had before, the service was the worst we had ever experienced. There were excuses for delays all evening and one of the guests got her meal a half hour after the rest of us. We got there at 9pm and we didn't get our food until midnight. Many of us were starving and the service was slow and there wasn't even a simple piece of bread to nibble on. The birthday boy felt so bad, he snuck out and got us some cans of nuts at the corner store. I do believe that sometimes the food can be a little off but as long as the service is good, you can get over it. From our experience that night, I can honestly say that Fareeza is in the wrong business as she cannot relate to her customers. What ever happened to customer service?

Nice design but dismal food and related service for medium to large group. There's no dessert for a birthday - so forget this destination for that occassion unless you're drinking only. And where is everybody on a Saturday night? Peculiar. Plan for drinks at the bar only until wait staff is hired and the menu improved. Special attention needed when service and food are far below average. Until basic customer service is addressed, go next door to Xacutti.

first off, i would tell the owner, Fareeza Ali, that she got herself in the wrong business. After walking in one night with my friend we were seated at the bar area...then we realized that the owner along with another employee were directly talking about us and giving us dirty looks. First off, when you are in customer service you should be warm, inviting, and hospitable...this was farm from it. Anyways I have one word for Fareeza, if your doorman is talking bad about you, then I don't think you are running the place properly and ensuring that your guests are having a great time.

Got to this "cozy" bar around 12:45. The place was pretty jammed and the were playing good music. I didn't eat OR drink. Service at this place was the worst in my opinion. It took them 1/2 hour to acknowledge my group and there were a lineup of other people next to me that were waiting for about the same time. The bartender that eventually took our order looked and acted like she was on special K. The staff behind the bar were all busy taking shots and sipping champagne INSTEAD of taking care of all the angry faces in front of them. Pathetic place....I'm not saying don't go to Arthur's...if you do, make sure you pre-drink, and when you're on your way down, call in your drink order so that it will be ready by the time you leave the bar.

The food was pretty good but I think there could have been more variety in terms of the sides the mains were served with. It seemed like all the meats and seafood had the same mound of rice, two beans, a grape tomato, and a slice of yellow squash. Maybe a mango/papaya salad with the salmon, or a mound of couscous, anything different would have showed some creativity. We especially liked the shrimp. The sauces were quite tasty. We enjoyed the music and the ambiance. There was a draft coming from the back which was noticeable. Overall, a very good experience. Oh, I tried the guava martini which tasted only of grapefruit juice with vodka, not a hint of guava which was disappointing.

I wish I could give you a review but I never made it to the dining. We were walking along College when we came across Arthur’s. Great looking, atmosphere felt right, we went in. I asked if we could be seated right away. No Problem was the answer. We were told to sit at the bar and we would be seated momentarily.... had drinks...had more drinks.... one hour later after the boring banter of one of the owners, we asked about our seats. We were told that no seats were available and after questioning the initial promise of seating, my wife was told, "Tough Titties" by one of its owners.

We paid up and left. When this place goes tits up, I will not mourn.

I came in from Italy last week. I heard about Arthurs and was told it was a must see! My girlfriend and I stopped by for a Martini and possibly dinner. The venue is beautiful. The music of choice was fantastic by their great dj, however, the atmosphere was frigid as was the host/owner, Fareeza Ali. Im sorry, but if Im dropping coin on my girlfriend, who should be treated as such, a smile would have done the job on the customer service front....Ladies if your out for a night of fun pull out those furs!!!!
