    Back to Mini Bar

    1. Jack Dawes's Review :: March 1, 2007
    Checked out Mini Bar last night (after work Wednesdays with David James) and found this spot to be amazing!! Classy yet not stuck-up. The new owners know what they're doing. The D.J (David James) was great mixing deep sexy house and rare soul grooves. The volume was good and at conversation level. The crowd seemed to be 28-40 range. Wednesday is the night at Mini.

    Not sure how a concrete slab over garbage bins becomes a rooftop patio! but that's what their advertising! not a bad little place when you're inside, but the patio feels like a green house and overlooks the sears parking lot. heard the owners at the near by merchandise building are continuing to have issues with the owners -breach of city noise by-laws and the like

    I actually used to work at Mini Bar for a few months and thought it was a super cute place. Some nights there was a dj and a younger crowd, but other nights the crowd was older and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The interior decor was really gorgeous, and the patio was still being renovated by George (he was always adding something). It's a new place and just needs some time to form an overall reputation and regular crowd. But if you want a good place for a date or to chill out with your friends while sipping on a yummy martini, than I do recommend Mini Bar.

    I was at Mini Bar for a private event. The space is great an event with up to 50 people. The staff were great. The drinks were cheap (compared to other DT joints). I'd gladly throw an event there.

    Mini Bar is great for getting together with friends and enjoying some tapas-style food. However, if you're looking for a place to enjoy some private conversation, this isn't where to go. But a great place to hang with friend before hitting the College Strip.

    Simply amazing. This small, but personable, bar was just what my friends and I needed after a long week. The quiet atmosphere was terrific for sitting back, enjoying a few drinks, and being able to chat while not having to compete with loud music.

    The drinks were well crafted and delicious, and the manager / bartender Candy was very friendly and always ready with a suggestion if we weren't sure what we wanted to try next. The one time my wife picked a drink she didn't care for, Candy immediately gave her something else, and didn't charge us for the original drink. I've never seen that before in any other bar.

    The prices were also terrific and add to the fact that all taxes are included in the price shown, it made it easier to when you've had a little to drink to figure out the tab at the end of the night.

    This place is a gem. At the risk of giving it away and making this place inaccessible the next time I show up in town, I recommend this place to ANYONE who's looking for a fun and relaxing night out in Toronto.

    I loved this place! It was a relaxing oasis within the heart of downtown.
    The hot, sexy yet down to earth staff went out of their way to make our night the best it could be. I think this should be the new favourite place in T.O., because it is mine now! The drinks are tasty, refreshing and cheap enough to sit and drink for the night, not just the hour! They even give candy with their martinti's! Love that! For the music part, they play a style of groovy, sexy beats that will bring you to your feet. It maybe a bit small downstairs to dance but the patio is another story.

    8. Noise Complaints's Review :: July 21, 2006
    I think there is a new owner - the aweful DJ nights are gone, but the bar is the same old concrete slab of a patio hangs over garbage bins with a great view of the Sears parking lot. It seems like the new owner is trying to make amends with the merchandise building - George certainly alientated them with his teeny-bobber, loud DJ nights. maybe she should have this write-up replaced to give her a fighting chance of making this place successful

    Wow! I read the review and decided to check this place out. From the moment I walked in nothing seemed to jive with the articles I'd read. The decor was average, but the view of the parking lot was amazing! There really is no fealling like sipping a $9 martini under a giant red tent over looking a green P, with "Dance Mix 96" blarring in the bakground!

    11. John's Review :: October 22, 2005
    I am not one to believe reviews, so I checked out MiniBar. It was later in the evening a few Thursday's ago and to my surprise, there was a DJ pounding house music and a bunch of 20-somethings hanging out on the street. Needless to say, I didn't even to in! Not sure what's changed, but it is no where near what the original review by this website provided and possibly closer to the more negative reviews. Think they are having an identity crisis!

    12. Another Neighbour's Review :: September 11, 2005
    Not sure if we're talking about the same MiniBar. After reading the reviews, I checked it out. The patio is a concrete slab with aweful plastic walls with a wonderful view of a parking lot (it was like sitting in a green house). The night I was there, only one other couple showed. I live in the neighbourhood and have driven by on a few occassions and it is always empty. Must be friends of the owner writing the other reviews. The article in the Globe last week was more than a stretch as well!

    13. Mini's Neighbour's Review :: August 27, 2005
    Wow what a place. I live just up the street from the MINIBAR and I love the atmosphere and the people it brings to the neighbourhood. It's a great place to go with friends or alone to make new friends or enjoy a nice uninterupted drink by the bar. The patio, wow! now thats a patio, roomy, clean and relaxed, by day and jumping at night. I met the owner and he was very gracious and inviting. Taking time from his busy schedule, like running a bar to actually fill me in with the area and history. Which also got the attention of a few people who were from Chicago and stopped by after their shopping spree at the Eaton Centre. What more can I say, I can keep writing and writing but I havt to leave right now because my friends are waiting for me at the MINIBAR and I'm running late. CHEERS!!!

    I am not sure who wrote the original reviews, must have been friends with the proprietor! The one time I did go there for a drink, we were the only ones there except for the proprietor who was sitting with a group of his friends making alot of noise and disturbing our enjoyment of the establishment. Minibar is typically a ghost town, except when they bring in the DJ and blast music late into the evening with no regard for local residences. Although, there is mention of the Merchandise building, they neglect to mention that owners in the Merchandise building have submitted several complaints to the police and bilaw office regarding the clear disregard for noise bilaw rules. The owner has been quoted telling one Merchandise building owner "Call the police, I have a business to run". The bar is off to a bad start in the neighbourhood and Merchandise Building owners are NOT impressed, nor are they visiting.

    Definitely one of Toronto's hidden jewels...great atmosphere...the owner/host was gracious enough to ask us how we were doing...the drinks were creative and the fact that taxes were included in the price was great, especially at the end of the night when tallying seems a wee difficult...

    everyone should check this place out.

    17. Maria Pascarella's Review :: July 30, 2005
    A very relaxing BUT hip atmosphere. The staff is welcoming and the decor is amazing. All the patrons are friendly and the music is awesome. The best part is if you ask the bartender to make you something special I guarantee you will never have anything like it. They can make just about anything to taste like anything your in the mood for.
