    Back to Republik

    1. Jim Beam's Review :: June 22, 2008
    In over 10 years of clubbing, Republik is the only place were I've witnessed one security staff member, have to toss ANOTHER security staff member out of the establishment. The two were involved in what seemed like a heated arguement over something. The younger, more stalky of the two marched off right through the dancefloor in a fit of rage, shoved one of the patrons out of his way, then suddenly turned and lunged at him for no reason (Can you say "'roid rage"?). If it wasn't for the quick intervention of the taller, senoir staff member (Whomever this gentleman was, I hope they gave him a HUGE raise in pay for avoiding a potential lawsuit), the innocent patron would have got his ass kicked for no good reason. I had another security staff tell me I wasn't allowed in the club, unless I kept my jacket on over my T-shirt (I guess he finds generic tattoos intimidating?). Even the coatcheck woman looked at him with a "WTF is your problem?" expresson on her face. Odd, considering the guy is almost 7 feet tall. I guess he spooks easily.

    Kudos to all the door, bar, and even washroom staff. They are all polite and personable. The washrooms were very clean, and I never had to wait for more than a minute or two at the bar. However, I don't think all that makes up for some of the "short-dicks" watching over the place (With some exceptions, of course. They weren't all inept or hostile). It's one thing to have to worry about a drunk stranger going off his rocker. But security as well? No thanks. I'll pass.

    I have been to Republik on three different occasions. The first time was not too bad, went there with a few friends, the DJ was doing some sort of a mash-up that was not the best, but the overall experience was okay. The second time was for a friends birthday party, which I planned with another friend of mine. We had a booth, and the service from the staff was good, however the security in this place is on a HUGE power trip! I was sitting in the booth watching the bouncers choose random girls off the dance floor and kick them out. They were not even acting as though they were intoxicated, and they just kicked them out without warning. Also, a friend of mine slipped on the floor, and she too got kicked out just for that. Unfortunately, I went back to Republik last night, again for a friends birthday party. This time, they refused a friend of mine at the door and said that her I.D didn't look like her. We had 11 people, including an employee at the club vouch for her age (22) and they still would not let her in. After this, there were 3 police officers standing by that came over and said that her I.D was valid, and the bouncer still would not let her in. We got a hefty apology from the police since there was not anything they could do. While standing outside the club (I stayed outside with my friend so she wouldn't be alone) the bouncer proceeded to refuse a handful of only women, saying that their I.D's did not look like them, and two of these women were 27 years old! It's a shame that Republik has such bad security, and I will not be returning there. It's also a shame that the party I threw brought them in a few thousand dollars in revenue and next time we will be taking our party elsewhere!

    I have been to Republik on two seperate occasions, and each time I vowed never to set foot in that place again. Republik is by far THE WORST club in Toronto, and quite possibly the entire world. The first time I went there we were on guestlist, provided we got inside before a certain time (I cant remember exactly what that time was). The guestlist line was huge and did not move at all until after that time had passed, when, miraculously, they let everybody in. Once inside they set fireworks off inside the packed room, forcing me to escape via a side door in order to avoid asphyxiation. The crowd was awful, and the entire vibe was tacky. The second time I went was for a friends birthday, or else I wouldnt have gone back at all. We got there early, around 10:30, and they made us wait outside in the freezing cold for over an hour before they let us in. The kicker was THE CLUB WAS EMPTY! There were like five people inside! They were trying to create the illusion of a lineup in order to make it seem like the place is more popular than it is. It was sad, really, and so pathetic. The place absolutely sucked, the crowd was terrible and nobody had a good time.
    My advice? Do not, under any circumstances, go to Republik. I would rather get a root canal than set foot in that place again. At least after a root canal they give you painkillers. Republik should be offering Percoset at the door to dull the painful night you are about to experience.

    Recently went on a Sat and had a killer time! The new bottle service booths are huge and the staff is sexy! The line to get into the club moved quickly and my guestlist request from the promoters was honoured. I've never seen so many sexy Asian ladies in one club at one time! Definitely dress sexy and chic because this is the place to see and be ssen! The music was good to with some bangin hip hop and rnb. Sat @ Republik is going to be my home for a long-time.

    This club is awful. We got a limo for a birthday party and the limo was almost 2 hours late in picking us up. by the time we go to the club, the bouncers made such a huge deal about letting us in and then told us we had to pay cover, even though that was supposed to be included in our limo price. after tons of hassling and major attitude from a bunch of asshole bouncers, we finally got into the club without paying cover. the club and music were awful and stuffy, and the snobby bartenders were complete bitches. we were told we couldn't go upstairs cause we weren't VIP, then when we went to have a smoke outside and get some air, they woudln't let us back in, even though it was my brithday. Worst club ever. Only go here if you're a pretentious bitch looking for a horrible night.

    I had the greatest time ever thank you Republik. We went for a friends 26th B-Day. We came on a limo bus there were 18 of us and we all enjoyed ourselves. Having the three rooms with three different sounds was helpful for all of my friends musiical needs. The bartenders were all fun and security was very helpful directing us around when needed. I will be back soon.

    CAUTION!!! DO NOT GO TO REPUBLIK NIGHT CLUB UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET ASSAULTED! This place is the worse club you will ever experience and I suggest never to waste your money on this dump. The bartenders and bouncers are hopped up on steroids and think they can just beat the sh!t out of anyone. DO NOT GO HERE!

    Bouncers were apparently pretty stupid as they don't know the difference between fake and real ID's. Told my buddy that his license from the US was a fake and then proceeded to tell him what it was supposed to look like while it was 100% real.

    I've never had that kind of experience before and have been border crossing for bars for a long time. Multiple bouncers looked at it and all thought it was fake because it wouldn't scan through their card reader since it was a past issue of a license.

    We ended up going over to Level because it had a short line and we wanted booze fast. Had a great time there.

    15. Mover Dave Aka Booog's Review :: January 5, 2006
    the crowds tough here older guys 27 -32
    the teenie boppers aka false ID chickee-poos are resistent to any of the more elaborate and or cerebral pickup lines. one wonders if one did intentionally regress with the attiude and get highschooly one would maybe then get lucky.
    ahh why waste your time its all about the ladies seriously, and this pad too yound.
    the light/techno show is great.
    again a real greasy palm is needed to be self administered to get in like other posters have mentioned.
    not worth it....

    I went for NEw year's eve party but I have to say will be my last time. I did not enjoy the music they played ....could of being better and I regret paying $40.00 to get nothing in return....ah and to make things worse they run of champagne but the security guys had bottles to drink?

    17. Rachel's Review :: June 5, 2005
    Republik is a huge waste of time and money. The bouncers are incredibly rude and obnoxious, the bars were out of basic supplies and the music wasn't very good. We were more than happy to cut our losses after less than 45 minutes (despite paying $20 to get in). There are so many better bars and clubs in this city -- go to ANY of them over this spot!

    18. Di Chan's Review :: June 3, 2005
    Republik felt more like a highschool dance than anything else. At 26, I'm just past the suggested age...although it felt more like YEARS past! Once we paid the obnoxious bouncer $25 each to skip the line, we couldn't understand why there was a line-up in the first place as it was so NOT be worth the wait! I'm also not sure where they get off charging $15 cover (to those who don't pay off the bouncer) especially since the bartenders have to ask you 3x what is was that you ordered! Century, C-Lounge, Drake fans and anybody over 21 with class (this comment is a result of being grabbed numerous times) - this is not the place for you!
