I went to Circa to see Simian Mobile Disco on March 21st and the place was awesome. The soundsystem kicks a$$. If you're looking for a loud, packed and rockin place to dance all night then this is the place to go!

Circa is the worst club I have ever been to in my entire life! For starters, they gave me the wrong coat check card at the beginning of the night so when i went to get my coat at the end of the night they gave me a mens coat. I proceeded to tell the stupid coat check people that they gave me the wrong coat check ticket at the beginning of the night and they basically told me to bad so sad, if i want to get my coat back i would have to wait until the end of the night when everyone left. I was not prepared to do this, especially because they screwed up. I could see my coat hanging behind the coat check table and i had a peice of photo id in my coat pocket, they still refused to give me my coat back and now had security threatening to kick me out if i didn't leave the coat check area. Most of my guy friends that were trying to help me get my coat back were picked up and thrown out of the club by the security I emailed the manager a complaint of what happened and he never responded, great customer service! While all of this was going on I watched 5 bouncers beat the shit out of this guy so badly that he was bleeding from his head in more than one place, it was disgusting. I will never go back to this place again. It is definately not worth the $20 cover!

Visited Circa Saturday, March 1st, very excited to see Bob Sinclar.

And left with just one word in my head: Frightening.

The club was packed way over capacity. Hallways were jammed to claustrophobic levels. Bouncers screamed at the crowds. Men patrons were shoving female patrons.

I understand that this place is a 'super-club'...so the crowds are to be expected. What is not expected is the sheer chaos that only seemed to build throughout the night.

We constantly were given conflicting directions by staff members - which had us, and many other people wasting our times fighting up hallways, only to be screamed at that we were going the wrong way.
One bouncer actually screamed at a patron "if you men wouldn't walk like B*tches, we could all move along faster."

I visited this club on opening weekend, and was excited to return, esp. for such an international DJ. We wont' be making that mistake again. I don't go out to clubs to feel processed like cattle.

Overall, its really too bad - Circa is a great concept, but until they get a handle on coping with crowds (and not overpacking the place) it just isn't safe, or fun.

I have been to many clubs in many city's.
Circa has impressed me above all for a multitude of reasons. The atmosphere is incredible. The lighting, the music, and the themes are crafted with a great deal of care and expense.
People will complain about paying to get in and the prices of drinks, but in dealing with a quality environment with a higher class of patron, this is essential. I have never seen so many pretty girls in one club.
Everything is done right in my opinion.
There are plenty of spots where the music isn’t as loud so you can speak with people or even make a phone call.
You can leave one district and walk into another and feel as if you’ve driven across town to a different club.
And it’s the only place in the city I’ve been to which play’s good house music.
You can tell the management cares about this place because everything from the decency of bouncers, to the nightly themes and DJ’s, are designed to have a good night.

Hope this helps.

haha here's a review brought to you by non-braindead! This comment section is laughable at best.

Anyway, went tonight, club was good. it's the retarded kids that post in here that give it a bad name, though not like anyone takes crap like this seriously

After reading most of the comments made about this club, I had to laugh. It seems that the angry-goers all have one thing in common.... spelling isn't their "thing"!

I've been to Circa a few times. Loved it the first time, had a bad night the second, had an awesome time the last time and am returning this weekend. Not only do clubs have good and not-so-good nights, but so do the patrons. Could it be that these angry, club-haters may just be miserable people looking for things wrong?

The first time I went, there was no soap in the washroom. I told one of the staff members and 40 minutes later, there was soap. Go figure! Sometimes, give people a break and offer advice instead of stomping on a new project who's purpose is to please Toronto and area patrons. - Don't hate...where's the love? - How about they install suggestion boxes all along the hall so you all get a chance to have your voices heard! Too funny!

Went for the first time on Sat nov 3rd.

I have read mixed reviews on this club. I was not impressed at all. This place is just too big, too many stairs, too much walking around. I'm thinking about those who get high, or drunk. This would be a challenge for them.

Lets start with entrance. I received a half price ticket from the door guys. I thought great!!! I was still charged $15.00 dollars. That means it cost $30 dollars regular price. WOW!!!!
At first, I was lost. I did not no where to go. Eventually we found our way around. Checked out all the rooms. We arrived early. Pretty empty. then it was rammed with people. A lot of cute looking girls around. but for what i paid at entry, i would assume there would be some sort of dress code. I.E no runners/hats. but htat was not the case as I saw many wearing nike's and fur hats. baseball caps.

Now the music. I love house. They played awesome house music. But even i need some variety. Every room they played house and house and more house. There was one room on the upper level that started to play r/b hiphop etc.... great. somethign different i thought. we ended up waiting in line to gain entry for about 15 minutes. after 30 minutes i had to take a leak, something one does after drinking. sure enough i was told the washroom is outside and to gain entry you have to wait in line once AGAIN! so i ended up waiting another 20 minutes to wait in a room where i left just to take a pee. bull$hit.

0verall, they had best straighten a lot of things out in this place. it wont last after the awe wears out. In my opinion, lucid was a better club.

Im still trying to figure out where the owner spent 6 million dollars on this club. Its exactly the same layout as lucid.

1 star here.

30 bucks. ... i shouldve gone to muzik, or maro's.

4 out of 4 stars!

Went out a Friday night (Nov.2nd), and we all loved CiRCA...definitely a breath of fresh air. I loved the crowd at CiRCA, and I'd rather have space to dance and friendly and helpful staff, like at CiRCA, than deal with the rudeness and overcapacity that occurs at Republik or Guvernment. I find CiRCA very visually appealing and the DJs never skipped a beat.

I understand that there are some things CiRCA needs to work on, like the small designated smoking area (although I don't smoke), and if this mega entertainment complex can keep going from its exciting grand opening, because of the supposedly cursed location (referring to previous tenants Lucid and Playdium). All I know is the people of Toronto need to go and support a great place like CiRCA, because it should remain a welcome addition to Toronto's Entertainment District.

So, if you want DJs playing great music, ample space to dance, reasonable-priced drinks, a good feeling of security and atmosphere (so you can have a great time), and no hooligans raining on your parade, then check out CiRCA.

CiRCA is my new favourite nightspot!

well can can be said about circa but its probably way too much for this city to handle...reading some of these reviews i can understand why some people feel the way they do about the club... ill start by saying i love this club..and i think it has great potential...however some of the issues with the place including the security the set up by that i mean the entry the exit and the smoking area...the owner also needs to take the pickle outta his ass yes yes we get it you are a big time player in the states...but remember your in canada now and we party a lil bit different than our neighbours to the south...

so the security...its amazing how big of jerks they can be..ppl will only tolerate a certain amount of crap granted that they do deal with alot of crap from drunken party goers but thats yor job your supposed to be a professional about it ive seen bouncers man handle some of the clientel thats just gonna hurt the club in the end..

that brings me to the entrance of the club...ive gone both the opening week and the week after as well the first week was cool i mean you walk in pay at the booth and then theres this hallway that has this crazy artwork it sets up the club with an amazing first impression... the following week was the complete oposite going in the back entrance throw an underground garage... terrible hey really need to figure something out to get in the FRONT you know where they spent all that money on...

the smoking area is a joke ill be honest not very impressive when u have spent 6.2 million on a club and you have to go into a back ally to smoke just not what you would expect from an high end club...

the layout of the inside is gorgeous tho alot of rooms cool lookin specticals but none the less in every room the music is alomost the same...it is good music but very repetitive if they want to compete with a power house like guv they need to accomidate to a wider client base keep it clean but play some different music...

these are the areas that need improvement but it can be done i mean like others have stated it is a much better club that lucid was but the reason they shut down last time was they just couldnt fill the club...this might be the case this time if they dont get it together you have paying customers why not treat them as such accomidate them rather than call them idiots and push them around because if you dont youll find yourself outta work outta club and that would be a shame because circa is a fantastic venue but its not make it if these problems persist

Went this friday. First impression is that it looks pretty cool. I mean, when you actually find the entrance you're hearded into this massive parking lot (which will be nice when it gets icy outside). On this particular night it was dead so we practically walked right in. The bouncers seemed pretty friendly. The cover set me back 15 which is pretty decent and to be expected from a place like this. This place has about four floors and a bunch of random cool decorations and stuff, live models, etc... Esthetically it looked pretty sharp. We got there at 11 and it was kinda dead. They didn't open up all the floors until about 12 oclock... Drinks are decently priced about 8-10 for simple things. The bartenders were nice too. There are a lot of different sections... if your pretty hammered good luck finding your way out. I don't know if it was this particular night but it seems that this club is very 'forward-friendly' (ie. if your a 'phobe you probably shouldn't go). I guess we'll see what in direction the club will swing as it gets more popular.

To sum it up:
-cool design
-huge!
-moderately priced
-probably too much sausage for the average taco lover

Went to Circa with friends. Had a really really great time. I love the variety of bars. The music was good.

I wouldn't over-analyze - it is what it is...an unpretentious and engaging space to spend your weekend nights.

If you are looking for flaws, you are going to definitely find them as nothing is perfect. Don't waste your time, just focus on having fun. We had a perfect time there.

Had to check it out, I remember peter from the new york days when I lived there
wish the club catered to an older demographic, as opposed to the 'wanna be' kids
they should entertain the thought of the 35- 55 yr old creative types that want to hang out somewhere, appreciate good music and esthestic
hope it stay 'round for awhile and develops its own character in the city
carpe dium

Why is every one hating on this club ???

I have never seen a better or bigger space in Toronro in the last 15 years of clubbing !!!

Multi floors, multi rooms, different themes and different rooms and different sounds.

I think this place is very cool, great design and idea's

People need to learn how to appreciate what some one is doing for Toronto to make this city happen...
instead people continue to slam great new venues that we need.

To all the negative people who have put up negative reviews.....

1. What would you have done to make it so much better???
2. Why can you not show ...how to make a great club instead of talk

Talk is cheap !!!

I think everyone's being a little hard on these guys. I really enjoyed the place. Sure, they've got a few issues to iron out (the tiny smoking area, for example), but all in all, the staff were cordial, the visuals were great, the sound systems were some of the best I've heard in a while. The energy of the place was refreshing and the drinks were actually well-priced. Compared to a lot of the usual nightspots, which use the same, lame, brand name djs and promoters every week, this place was great. As for the club owner being shady, um, are there any club owners who aren't shady to some degree?? People sure love to complain in this city.

Thumbs up.

WOW

Remember years back when this place was "Lucid"? It was horrible then, and even worse now.

Starting off, we see the owner outside, some frail 90 year old hag of some sort with a cold pole up his arse...by boyfriend tells him that he saw him on CityTV and it looks like hes done a great job with the place...the man just nods YA and walks away...:D classy!

Then we get into the actual club. and the "guards" had some severe chips on their shoulders.

Yes, the place is big, its renovated quite nicely. BUT THERE WERE NO BAR TENDERS AT THE BARS! Even worse, you couldnt have a TAB at the bar! Since when couldnt you use your trusted credit card to have a tab at the bar instead of paying bit by bit here and there?!

Then the crowd: immature, running around, I witnessed about 4 different girls fall all over the place, as if it was the first time they were allowed out past curfew without their parents.

The music was amazing, the DJ was spinning awesome house tracks. But thats about it!

Overall, this club is too big, lacks organization, and needs to accept a BAR TAB!

Terrible Bottle Service. Everything except the premiums are sold out on the first night? Bull. Then it takes 10 mintues for each bottle to come out, then another 10 minutes for the teenie tiny mixers to go along with them.

Major Dissapointment.

Don't waste your time, go somewhere else.

Sounds like the reviews on here so far have all been written by disgruntled owners and management of Circa's competition!!! This club is STELLAR in concept and execution, and is a total improvement from the Lucid days.

I attended both Friday and Saturday nights this weekend, and while there are obviously some issues for such a giant club to work out, it was opening weekend so that's to be expected.

The club's decor is intricate and full of impressive details. All the rooms have different themes and are catering to different crowds, but the beauty of it is that all sorts of people came together to enjoy the same party! Friday was more of a scenester, Queen West, hipster, and gay crowd - very diverse. It was called Randomland and that's appropriate. Fun and refreshing!

Saturday was more mainstream, the club played great music and different rooms had different sounds and DJs. The WASHROOM BAR is craaazy - very cool! The bar is shaped like a giant toilet, and there was a model in a glass shower between the two washrooms.

Definitely a lot to take in at Circa, but so many details I found really neat like the bar that lights up when you lean on it and the TV screens that project images of you as you walk by.

While there were some issues with service and the bars running out of some stock, it was the first opening weekend and the staff are probably still sorting stuff out and getting used to everything. In my opinion, Circa is a welcome change from all the lame and pretentious "lounges" sprouting up all over this city.

All these reviews below are completely nuts. These guys need to get their heads examined. Dissing a club becuase you had to wait in a parking lot, on it's opening week is just daft. Geez. Give these guys a break. It's their first week - They (duh) obviously have to work out some kinks. Circa is unlike any club I've been. And I've been to the best of them in New York and Miami. Gatien is a genius. Circa will be best party in Toronto for a long time.

What do you get when you try to fuse hipster types with 905ers? Circa. Aside from having one bartender at each bar at times, aside from the flooded washroom, aside from the ATM's or Visa not working...the club looks nice. That's it. But it all gets old pretty fast.

The bathroom bar was probably the best part of the club.

Like A Halloween Party at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Overall, an incredibly interesting space - fetishistic, voyeuristic, artistic.

At this point - I can only comment on the appearance of the space (vs. its atmosphere - I was there early for opening night, before things really got kicking and screaming) - So therefore, my opinion is from a purely visual point of view/

If anything negative - its that some of the avant-garde references in the decor will be lost on the bottle service bimbo types... and that the strange rules over who uses the escalators will bring months of confusion.

Will keep my eye on this space - it really does feel like a strangely decorated rocket ship just landed in our backyard.

Wow,

Another false promise in the land of nightclubs. What is wrong with these guys. They actually think people are going to pay to stand and be on guard. The club is Lame!!!
They buy the "state of the art equipment", which translates into the cheapest new stuff. Maybe they should take one day off to come down.
That or if you have all the money in the world to build a club, how about hiring a production company to run events? That is what clubs in Dubai/ Vegas/ NYC/ LA do. It works there.
Relying on a DJ just is passe. Now you can find cool small clubs with inimite settings and your own DJ spinning a unique experience.
Look at Mexico for Club action, or Paris "Buddha Bar" these are clubs you can say you leave changed. At it is worth the $$ So step up or step off.
SOOOOO weak@!

Invited to the opening of Circa last night, and this might sum up its ability to attract a higher end crowd - Door Staff: "If you have been invited, you will be processed in the parking lot behind Hooters."

Not a great way to start attracting the 'right' crowd, and the whole opening night lacked any sort of festive occasion to it, and it was definitely lacking a host!

The space was indeed interesting, but many of the items mentioned in the martini boys article must have come from press releases as they were non existent.

The bar and DJ in the washroom was a HIT! I think this will become the most popular room.

It looks like it will be a great spot for yet more 905er's, as it lacks any real cool city vibe.
