Back to The Drake Hotel
about 3 years ago i use to venture to the drake for a crash pad and a great place for drinks and a bite. always safe. never let down. havent been around in a while. decided to take a friend out for brunch in toronto want to escape our usual avenue bar, one at the hazelton, yorkville vibe, so remembering how great the drake was i thought lets go there. we showed up at around 12:45, they where busy (as expected) but took our name and said a table would come up in abput 25 min. we left our cell numbers so they could call to let us know our table was ready. 45 min go buy and we decide to check in, apparently they had called and left a message. well no call or message recieved on my phone. ( i did double check btw to make i did infact give the right #, i did. they lied or they are incompetent) so they do have a table ready for us be we have to wait for the other hostess to come back to the front to get seated. so we wait like 10 min then the host thats with us says so the doorman will cover while i seat you. (gosh thanks) we get seated in the back of the restaurant which is 70% full in the corner. we then wait 15 more minutes untill the bus boy who is cleaning the table beside us asks us if any one has served us, we say no, he gets us a bottle of water and brings someone over to take our drinks. we order a ottle of wine. the wine gets promptley served. then nothing for 20 min. people get seated at the table next to use, with a little basket of croissents and jam , water and o.j, there order taken right away, then same thing to tables over. we are starving and appalled. we aske for our bill and the manager. the bill takes forever. the manager comes over, does the manager thing sorrys and such, they do offer to take care of our brunch and serve us asap, at this point when we decided to leave we made res else where, we had no intention in staying. it was great they made the move to try to fix the error, but the situtaion was fragile right from the lost call to waiting for empty tables, the care was not put in from the get go.. and its unforturnate, cause after all the great times, the one bad time, i assure you i will never go back here again, and being in the service industry myself i will make sure none of my clients expirence this either.

After being on a waiting list for more than an hour to go to the upstairs patio and watching other people going upstairs through the back door, I promised myself never ever to come back to the Drake Hotel!!! They should be thankful that I went all the way to that pathetic place so far away from the Downtown! Don't even bother taking the trip to the Drake hotel, unless you want to be turned down by the most arrogant and unfriendly staff. And believe me, you will be! You will be stuck in the middle of nowhere in the Queen West area, with no other club within the walking distance to go to.

What a miserable waste of a beautiful place. More than an hour, on a slow night, waiting for a simple dish. Lukewarm apologies. No staff to inquire about our missing plates after 45 minutes.
The Drake is over. The scene SUCKS.

I LOVE the Drake, for a romantic dinner or a hot night out! BUT I made the mistake of finaggling myself and beau in for lunch during Winterlicious. We were successful and scored a lovely seat but in turn, our waitress was all about ATTITUDE and our burger might have been the WORST ever. Flat, dry, tastless, served with NOTHING...and apparently, that's what it was all about??!! I was thankful for the seat but in tears over the food. Being on the hunt for the best burger in town, the Drake disappointed me completely. My picks so far: Bymark #1, Beaconsfield #2, The Drake # 999,999,999,999.

I was at the drake last weekend, and was shocked to see such a large line, I was alone- I was told to ask for some guy named Vladimir, much to my surprise a very tall young man came outside to greet upon request from the doorguy, he asked if we had meet previously and I told me that I was late and alone, he brought me to my party- and I had a great time.
Throught the evening- he would stop by and say hello- what a great place/ great music/ a lot of attractive men-
loved it
ask for Vlad ppl- who is great

What I can't understand is how this place makes the top lists all the time? Best crowd? Certaintly not. Best food? Certainly not. Best music? Most Certainly not. The problem with The Drake is that it can't decide who it's target market is. Is it hispters? Rockers? Grungers? Hip Hoppers? Hippies? No worries because it targets it all. Maybe I am overlooking something and this is a good thing but everytime I have ever been there I spend more time being amused by the diverse and grubby crowd while sitting on a patio that resembles a friend's backyard deck complete with hideous furniture and light fixtures, then paying any attention to my bad drinks. And the restroom? The co-oed ones in the hall? You can just imagine how clean they are, and no...they certainly don't smell like flowers!
Don't waste your time if you think you are going to go here to mingle with a hot crowd. There are many more tastefully decorated bars in T.O. on College or King St. or Yorkville that will cater to your desire for a good cocktail in a swanky setting. Don't be fooled as swank this is NOT. Maybe I've missed the allure to this place and everything I said, is everything they are trying to accomplish.

What a wonderful oasis. The diversity of the crowd in all areas, the interesting menus from dining room to cocktails, the attention to eclectic detail in d?cor make this so special. There is no outdoor patio more comfortable and dynamic than the rooftop in the summer. If dinner is what you?re looking for, the dining room is an experience all it?s own. Maybe heading towards loud by the end of dinner as the music and energy of the lounge, combined with the anticipation papable in the patio queue tumble into the dining area. Early dinner might be best. Fondue fries are perfect guilty pleasure, and dessert deserves attention. Upstairs the patio menu is enough to satisfy a nosh, and cocktails are provided with attention and care. If you are looking for a destination for anyone who can carry on an intelligent conversation and is looking for something more than the homogeneous type of clubland/downtown experience, then head for the Drake. Drinks on the patio, dinner downstairs then back to the patio as weather permits. Fabulous yet without the pretentious doormen and selective service.

going out to have a good time!
February 19, 2005
I sit and read over the many reviews submitted not only to your website, but to many others and i can't help but wonder what happened to "going out to have a good time"? People these days look for things to complain about from the second they walk pass doorways that are held open for them. Get over yourselves already!!!! What happened to JUST GOING OUT TO HAVE FUN???? Everybody wants.... or should i say THINKS they're "somebody" and watch out if you don't treat them that way!!!! I have read good and bad comments on the Drake and all I can do is laugh. I frequent this establishment once and awhile and have always had an amazing time. The food, although not consistent, is always satisfying. The drinks.... come on really after the third who can really tell????? The service.... that is what keeps me coming back!!!! Managers always ready to bend over backwards for you, bartenders always attentive, and cocktail servers fighting through packed lounges and patios in o rder to quench your thirst. Sat back and watched the servers tonight and wondered "how can they do it???" So glad to see Joey back, and even happier to see Betty back in the lounge!!! Now there is someone who makes anyone feel at home regardless of your sex.... not seen often.... someone who is truely loved by males and females (I think more by females.... it must be those dimples and genuine quality). My advice to people.... when going out remember why you are out and get over yourselves.... it's all about having a good time!!! Negative energy.... take it elsewhere and let others enjoy the Drake!!!
