hen Porsche designs a handbag, do you really need to know anything about it before buying it? Chances are if you’re the type who would buy Porsche handbags or luggage, you’re doing it for the little metal nameplate with the words “Porsche Design” displayed ever-so-prominently, which you can you can casually emphasize to all your professional betters, jealous friends, enemies, and frenemies. Porsche denotes conspicuous luxury, unparalleled in its position as the ultimate status-symbol.

Porsche Design’s CL2 line of personal business and travel articles act as the perfect accessorizing flourish to your sleek Porsche sports car. Alternatively, it’s the perfect way to make you look like a Porsche owner without actually owning a Porsche. Of course, that could cause much embarrassment if used as a pick-up tactic. You’ll just have to trust me on that.

The CL2 line includes two Brief Bags, a messenger bag, and a laptop case, all of which are well-designed for the high-end businessman/wannabe spy inside all of us. You can also purchase a leather wallet, billfold, card holder, change purse or key holder if you just need that Porsche Design label all over everything you own. It’s like crack, once you have one, you won’t be able to stop. Incidentally, I think that may have been the first time a line of luggage has ever been compared to crack.

The design of the handbags conforms to the overall design aesthetic that you might expect from a Porsche vehicle: sleek, stylish, and simple. Fine hardwearing black leather and nylon means that you won’t have to worry about dropping it. You could probably even throw it out the side of a moving sports car without causing too much damage (although if it’s carrying a laptop, I wouldn’t suggest it).

The interior is lined with fine jacquard, while flaps, grips, and handles are constructed out of flawless and robust calfskin. Then, to complete the whole package, the clasps and trimmings are made from hand-polished fine solid metal. Obviously, high-quality workmanship is par for the course. But what else would you expect from Porsche? Believe me; you’ll be paying for the luxury. That, and the ability to say “I own a Porsche” without necessarily meaning a car.
