 Wait... What? Devo is coming to New York? Talk about being obscure in 2009, but I suppose it is only appropriate that these early pioneers of the New Wave genre come back in this day and age, what with the sudden resurgence of 1980’s style music as of late. For those of you who don’t know, Devo spawned out of Akron, Ohio in 1973, but are probably best know for their 1980 hit Whip it, which has probably been used in among other things, several car commercials. But at least they aren’t dancing with vacuum cleaners…yet. But you have to give Devo credit, as I’m sure that they have inspired many musicians what with there New Wave sound, and science fiction themes. Perhaps it was the pre cursor that inspired Trent Reznor’s deep Industrial synth lines, and the dystopian parallel future of Year Zero. You know what now that I think about it, who wouldn’t want to go and see these guys in action in 2009; after all, everything that was old is new again…right?
