avid Byrne’s sound installation with Creative time is a fascinating conceptual art piece that needs to be experienced to be believed. Strange as it may sound, Byrne has actually transformed a building into a musical instrument. Walk into the Battery Maritime Building and you’ll see an organ in the middle of a vast empty room. But the organ isn’t like that one Grandma used to own. No, this one is connected directly to the building structure (to heating pipes, water pipes, metal beams and pillars, etc.) and by pressing the keys you’ll be able t cause different parts of the building to vibrate, resonate, and oscillate to create sound. Essentially, you’ll be playing the entire building as one gigantic musical instrument. How’s that for a conceptual art piece?! Well done Byrne…well done. –P.B.
