Location: 54 Prince Street, New York, NY
adies with SATC experience will undoubtedly recognize the Chelsea staple Cafeteria from the pack of restos along Seventh, and owner Mark Thomas Amadei hopes that his second ventue, Delicattessen, will stand out from the other NoLiTa eateries.
The restaurant opens where there was once Buffa's luncheonette, a greasy-spoon venture that Delicatessen is guaranteed to overshadow. The kitchen serves up international comfort food that is sure to please anyone interested in decent tasting food, but will probably disappoint gourmet foodie snobs (there's just no gastronomy going on here for them).
Chef Doron Wong has cooked everywhere from Singapore and New Jersey, so the man has many different styles of cuisine under his belt and plans to whip out for paying customers. Expect experimental dishes like cheeseburger spring rolls, Reuben fritters, and wonton-wrapped halibut tacos with kimchee sour cream, alongside deli classics like matzo-ball soup and pastrami on rye. Come with an empty stomach and a fresh gym membership.
