    Macondo

    August 18,2008 2:24:05 pm
Location: 157 East Houston Street, New York, NY

If you have a hankering for an authentic Latin experience, replete with cultural and social influences, then Macondo will be your go to restaurant. Chef Maximo Tejada reigns here, of the nearby Rayuela - a favorite refined Latin eatery, and shares ownership with restaurateur Hector Sanz. With a focus on Latino camida de la calle (Latin street food), Maconda serves variations on arepas, empanadas, churros, and more. A Brazilian juice bar serves up exotic fruit juices and provides the stuff for mucho interesting cocktails. Replicating a rain forest, the room is painted green and provides viewing access to the kitchen. Never heard of the town of Macondo? Then you haven't read one of the best pieces of Latin American fiction. Figure it out. –C.S.
