Location: 134 Reade Street, New York, NY
ollowing in a parent's footsteps is tough enough, but when you are Marc Forgione, son of American chef extraordinaire Larry Forgione, the challenge seems almost impossible to face. Instead of maybe venturing into Thai cuisine, so as not to draw direct comparisons, Marc has gone head to head with his father, opening a new restaurant with a focus on modern American cuisine. Expect specialties to be dishes like suckling pig for two with mustard crush fingerling potatoes, or chicken nuggets, comprised of shredded confit chicken thighs with poblano chiles and onion remoulade. The menu is meat and fish heavy, with a lone vegetarian option. But trick your vegetarian friends into going, and they will be eating the boneless ribeye once they set their sites on any of these dishes. A touch pricey (the average main is around $32), you're paying for exclusivity; the restaurant is located on a quiet residential street in Tribeca. Go now before a Starbucks is inevitably opened, then closed, up the street. –C.S.
