 he wealthy need a certain perimeter of space around them when they shop; the fear they may touch someone who can just afford to browse puts them on edge. Thus the 10,600 square-foot Hermes flagship on Madison Avenue simply was not big enough. In response, the French company purchased 6,000 square-feet across the road (690 Madison Avenue to be exact) for Hermes' first-ever exclusively men's shop set to open in the fall of 2009.
From Armani to Zegna, will the men of NYC flock to another designer suiting outlet? Known for their patterned silks, ties and pocket squares will accent the chic line of suits and shirts sold here. The brand recognition associated with Hermes will certainly bring in the fashionistos and their Birkin carrying girlfriends. Plus, look out for hot French men in even hotter apparel when the expected print ad push begins this fall. –C.S.
