Location: 795 5th Ave, New York, NY 10065, USA
Le Caprice's London room tells a hundred stories, and most of them seem to involve Champagne. And now, on October 26, 2009, Le Caprice will capture the hearts of Upper East-siders whose desire for expense account dining is likely to strike in the wee hours that stride dusk and dawn. Under relatively new ownership (circa 2005), the Taj’s New York-based property, The Pierre Hotel, where the Le Caprice is currently under construction, has been completely renovated, having re-opened with a fresh and even more refined look. Thus, The Pierre couldn't return with the same so-last-year restaurant. Taj Pierre is getting Le Caprice – a restaurant with a well-established pedigree. Straight from London, Le Caprice is a beloved stalwart, that lures the well-dressed theatre crowd. And, while the New York version doesn't open until October 26, expect it to attract a similar set, albeit without Brit accents. The space, conceptualized by Martin Brudnizki (who is behind the interiors of Scott’s, Wentworth Grill, J Sheekey Oyster Bar and The Club at The Ivy in London), is leaning toward a distinct Gotham aesthetic, with a long, stool abetted bar running parallel to similarly long banquette. A series of photographs of iconic sixties model Jean Shrimpton by legendary British photographer, David Bailey will be on display. A major aspect of the original Caprice's greatest allure is its wealth of art and refined atmosphere, and given the Taj association, this location will be no different.
Le Caprice New York City in the Taj Pierre Hotel, opens on 26 October 2009.
