If the emperor needs new clothes, he’d be wise to venture down to Madison Avenue where Tom Ford’s new two-floor boutique is all classic elegance with plush dark furnishings, gold accents and, of course, plenty of full-length mirrors to scope out those made-to-measure suits (starting at $2,900).
On the ground floor, you’ll find classic three-piece suits, twelve colognes and dress shirts in a whopping 350 hues and three cuff styles. Venture upstairs via a velvet-lined elevator or ebony staircase where you’ll find more of the sweet stuff including accessories and eyewear.
Ford (who recently admitted to not wearing underwear) certainly has the luck of the draw and started
his fashion career at non other than Gucci where he designed for the women’s collection. He later spent several years with Yves Saint Laurent before launching the Tom Ford brand in 2005. Although he is well-known in the fashion world, his label is a relative newcomer to the game. The opening of this Madison Ave store was well timed to coincide with the debut of the signature Tom Ford menswear and accessory collection.
Even with plenty of off-the-rack separates, the new Tom Ford store still offers the private shopping appointments and dressing rooms you would expect of a designer boutique of this caliber. -L.D.
