The anti-thesis to the Western fashion notion of colorful, sexy clothing, the asymmetrical designs from celebrated Japanese designers have contributed to the boutique's popularity over the years. With runway ready fashions that obscure and fragment the silhouette of the body shape in monochromatic and black colors, the fashion world has often been up in arms about the striking and controversial styles. The store’s moniker ironically translates to “like boys” from French, which is akin to the boyish shapes of the models that walk down the runway in the boutique's clothing. The perfumes released from the shop over the years have also attacked established fragrances by creating a concoction heralded as “Odeur 53” that blended notes of nail polish, burnt rubber and flaming rock - the first anti-perfume. Can’t say I was a fan. For true avant-garde fashion to kick up the wardrobe, this boutique is bizarre enough to even spice up Cher’s closet.
