As if Pharrell Williams needs any more money. This mega-producer has beat out tracks for my girl Mariah, Snoop-a-Loop, Usher, and Beyonce. Clearly, he doesn’t need any more dough (unless he’s planning on purchasing that 6th mansion). Teaming up with designer Nigo, Pharrell has launched two lines of luxury clothing called Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream.
The newest store to open is at 456 West Broadway in New York. The doors officially opened to the public Tuesday, November 27th, much to the excitement of all younger men and pseudo-punk girls (who are stuck in between punk and girlie). The store also offers some strange accessories like knitted robot ski masks, or Star Trek gloves with three fingers.
Both clothing lines focus on high-end luxury sports wear including t-shirts, polos, sweatshirts and outerwear. The boys line, Billionaire Boys Club (come on, you thought it was Ice Cream? You’re silly), features tees with robots, logos, and fun graphics. They also offer classier polo shirts, which are perfect for when you’re being forced into dressing up (Christmas pictures, anyone?). The sweatshirts are quite interesting - have you been searching for a crewneck sweat with army arms? You never know when you have to hide in a bush - now your arms will no longer give you away. Also offered is the university cardigan complete with a red trimmed neck and a blue dollar sign.
The women’s Ice Cream line is cute and original. Many of the shirts simply have “Ice Cream” written over and over. You may look like a crazy ice cream fanatic, but who cares? You’ll be an ice cream fanatic in expensive clothes. While the female’s line doesn’t offer as much selection in bottoms or outwear, the line is still improving and growing.
While the bright, neon colors may overwhelm you upon first glance, just breathe and reboot. The logos are big, flashy, and the colors could burn your retinas, but the clothing is original, which rarely happens nowadays. Just forget about the fact that you’re dumping money into Pharrell’s pocket. At least he’s talented, so it’s almost okay. Almost. -S.B.
