I can't help but think of David Lynch - Wankel Hardware has the same small-town friendliness of the hardware store in Lumberville, the setting of Lych's suburban nightmare, Blue Velvet. Unlike the one in Lumberville, Wankel Hardware has been family owned and operated for over 100 years, quite a feat given the ever-changing nature of a city, especially one as metropolitan as New York. And if that's not enough to make you a loyal patron, Wankel Hardware demonstrates its true devotion to the spirit of America by employing physically and mentally challenged undividuals, cancer patients and runaway teens. With such dedication and care to the individual as to the city, I wouldn't be surprised if Wankel were around for another 100 years. -L.D
