This is no ordinary furniture store. Artware Editions only carries designer pieces, but the designers in question don’t work primarily in furniture. They’re actually contemporary artists. The objects that they carry have two binding themes: utility and strong connections to the artist’s oeuvre. That means the pieces are meant to be approached both as art and as regular furniture.

I guess it’s meant for the person who wants to literally surround himself with art. Just hanging it on the wall isn’t good enough. The artists that they carry are nothing to shake your finger at, either. Artists like Roy Lichtenstein, Donald Judd, and Rachel Whiteread. If artists that I’ve studied in my Modern Art 300 class are designing furniture that you can buy and put in your house, believe me, it’s a big deal.
