Moroso The Italian posterior was sad before it became an artist. Now, it gets all of the up-market aesthetes. Designing unique, innovative, and brashly beautiful furniture since 1952, Moroso's stable of designers creates art for the ass. However, never gratuitously adventurous, its couches, chairs, and attendant pieces retain an air of functionality. In its Greene Street space - the company's first stateside outpost - the focus remains on the furniture.

A former art gallery on Greene Street, both the showroom's location and layout is apropos. A showcase for artistic designs, traipse around the striking seating, testing it out by easing down and settling in. Open since May, the space has already drawn a horde of in-the-know home outfitters, but the zeal and sheen remains in tact.

Shopping for furniture here lets you score a singular piece that will bate your Ikea-loving friends. Though the price tag is expectedly high, considering the distance traveled and artistry involved, you're actually getting a deal. Expect vibrant colors, ingenious lines, and surprising cohesion. Prepare the rest of your furniture, it's about to get relegated to a supporting role.
