This is just the kind of Friday you can sink your teeth into. What can I say about the golden oldie that is
Bob Dylan that hasn't already been said? There's been more written about
Dylan than about any other musician ever (I don’t think I can prove that, but I'm sure it's true). The man is a pioneer of music, a genius, and of course, a living legend. When the opportunity arises, then you should go see him live, no matter what his age may be. Sure, his voice may not be what it once was and his songs are performed in sometimes unrecognizable rearrangements, but it's not everyday you get the chance to see a legend. Granted, he is on a Never Ending Tour, so you probably will get another chance, but I'd say go now.
Bob Dylan is at the United Palace Theatre, tonight (Friday, November 20). More on Bob Dylan and other potentially cool ongoings
here.
Roger Daltrey delivers solo material backed by a four-piece band, tonight. Hurrah! You may also recognize the former front man for The Who, from That ‘70s Show, and he'll be sure to sing his little heart out for you and your friend Tommy. I'm sure the Who's still on first, because What's over there on second and it ain't moving… I’m sorry that was a lame Abbott and Costello joke.
Roger Daltrey is at the Nokia Theatre Times Square, tonight. Other cool things to do today
here.
Wait... What?
Devo is coming to New York? Talk about being obscure in 2009, but I suppose it is only appropriate that these early pioneers of the
New Wave genre come back in this day and age, what with the sudden resurgence of 1980’s style music as of late.
Devo is probably best know for their 1980 hit
Whip it, which has probably been used in among other things, several car commercials. After all, everything that was old is new again…right?
Devo is playing tonight at The Fillmore New York. Other concerts tonight
here.
New Wave is all well and good, but what about masked Mexican wrestling? Officially opening tonight at 6 is
La Lucha, a new East Village Taqueria that specializes in both Lucha Libre memorabilia and cheap Mexico City style street food. Sounds like a winning combo to me.
This is just the kick off, to what is beginning to look like nothing more than is a rip roaring weekend. However though, if the above offerings don’t happen to tickle your fancy, then you may want to check out the selections of the
Armani sample sale going on over at the
Metropolitan Pavilion. Still don’t see anything you like? Fine then, why not go and check out the passive comedy styles of
Craig Robinson. And last, but most certainly not least, the roof top Café of the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be closing for the winter this Sunday, although tonight will be you last chance to sample the delights of their delectable martini bar.
