The prolific songwriter first wooed us when he brought
Bright Eyes onto the indie rock scene. His psychedelic undertones, heart-tugging vocals and melancholic sound had hipsters shaking while cutting their locks ever so delicately.
Conor Oberst may have made some kids want to stay indoors for days in order to get some perspective, but his therapy had impact. Oberst has now fused his quiet jolts of indie rock with added folk-rock companions, forming
Connor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band. For over a year the collaboration has made head turns, even Rolling Stones has commented on the genuine talent of Oberst. Hey, if Rolling Stone thinks he's cool why not spend this fourth of July shooting back shots and taking in some odd indie sounds.
Jenny Lewis also joins the festivities, bringing her powerful and sharp commentary on stage. Let's face it, it's July 4th and you're probably already drunk so wherever you go the most important thing is not to throw up; this music should help ease the spins.
Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band play alongside Jenny Lewis, tonight (Saturday July 4) at Battery Park, as part of the River to River Festival.
