Whiskey Town, a new bar in the East Village, wants to rock and roll all night and party ev-a-ry day, or at least until 4am, which is good enough for me. The bar plays – you guessed it – rock and roll, and serves – you guessed it – whiskey. It serves a lot of other alcohol too, but “Assorted Beer and Liquor Town” just doesn’t have the same ring. Although if that town existed, I’d live there.

The full service bar, in addition to a variety of premium liquors, also serves a large assortment of beers – not on tap, not in bottles, but in cans. That’s right, all the beers come in cans. And not because it’s become über-hip to ironically will cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon, either. Rather, it’s a way to keep every beer on ice without the label gumming up and falling off (which, I must admit, is pretty terrible). Shotgunning your beer isn’t only allowed, it’s encouraged.

If you don’t believe me, just ask the bar’s owners, George and Justin Ruotolo, both of whom enjoy tending the bar. Both of the heavily-tattooed brothers play in bands, and according to Whiskey Town’s website, “love whiskey, women, and rock & roll”. If that doesn’t give you some idea of the atmosphere of this place, then I just don’t know what will.

But despite the uninhibited rock-at-all-costs existence that this bar purveys, it is actually quite carefully designed and thought out. The proprietors want you to dance, so what do they do? They make the benches surrounding the DJ booth out of sturdy painted wood to encourage you to get up on top and rock out with your cock out (but not literally, of course).

Even the murals in the bathrooms have been painstakingly designed by artist Marc Evan in a style that can only be described as tattoo-chic. An oxymoron, I know, but one that best describes Whiskey Town's entire aesthetic. Forget it Jake, it’s Whiskey Town.

Really, thank you guys so much :) I can't thank you enough for showing me your hatred and banning me from your bar. I will make sure I recommend every friend of mine who is new to NYC not to go anywhere near your institution with a 100-foot pole, because of your discrimination policies and cold demeanor towards customers who wish nothing more than to do good business with you guys. Much appreciated. Have a good day- I'm sure I'll see you around.

    Sincerely,
    That Dude Who You Banned.
